Regional Sponsored Sub Class 187 Visa is for skilled employees who are not in Australia as well as for skilled temporary residents who work and live in regional Australia. It has three categories.

The first one is Temporary Residence Transition category. It is for subclass 457 visa holders who have already worked for two years in Australia and their employer wants to offer them a permanent position.

The Direct Entry category is for those people who have never, or only for short time, worked in the Australian labour market.

The third Agreement category is for those people who are sponsored by an employer through a labour or regional migration agreement.

Eligibility: - You can apply for Regional Sponsored Sub Class 187 Visa from India if

•  You want to live and work in regional Australia, which means not in the Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong.
•  You have been nominated by an appropriate Australian employer sited in regional Australia.
•  Your age is less than 50 years.
•  You meet the qualifications, skills, and English language proficiency requirements.

How this visa works:-

The Regional Sponsored (subclass 187) Migration Scheme visa works for skilled workers from both outside Australia as well as skilled temporary residents who currently live and work in Australia. It is category under the permanent Employer Sponsored visa program. There are exceptions relating to skills, age, and language proficiency. These exemptions depend on your nominated profession, wage and past work experience.

You can also lodge an Expression of Interest through Skill Select in case you do not have an employer who will recommend you. Probable employers and state and territory governments can then see your details and choose whether to nominate you for skilled migration.

You may not be eligible to be granted a visa if you owe the Australian Government money, until you have made arrangements to pay the debt.

Applying for this visa:-

If you are nominated to apply for Regional Sponsored Sub Class 187 Visa, you must submit your application online within six months from the date the approval. You need to make sure that you lodge visa application after employer nomination has been lodged. You must select the correct stream as failure to do so may result in a void visa application. Choosing one of the three visa streams is a must requirement.

If you are a subclass 457 visa holder who has worked for an employer for two years or more in the nominated profession and your employer wants to give you a permanent position in that profession then select the Temporary Residence Transition stream.

If you have not, or only for a short time, worked in the Australian labour market, or don’t have a subclass 457 visa for the last two years with your nominating employer, or if you are applying from outside Australia then choose the Direct Entry stream.

Regional Sponsored Sub Class 187 Visa costs

The non-refundable fee for lodging an application for Regional sponsored visa under all the streams is AUD3060. This payment includes you and all dependent family members mentioned in your application.

If you want to apply for Regional Sponsored Sub Class 187 Visa from India, you need to be nominated by an employer or state or regional government. In case you don’t have the nomination by now then you can submit an expression of interest so that probable employers can see your profile and nominate you.
