Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) 2018 – Exam Notification

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, also referred to as KVPY is a national fellowship programme initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The fellowship is given after an individual clears an exam followed by an interview. Each year, a short notification is issued in second week of May followed by a detailed notification in July.

• This program is administered by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It was started to encourage students having interest in Science to take up a career in the field of research in Science.
• The aim of KVPY programme was to find school and college students who had a keen interest in research and wanted to pursue a career in field of basic sciences, engineering and medicine.
• From 2018, applications have been invited from Indian Nationals but as per the Interim order of High court of Karnataka OCI/PIO students have been granted permission to write KVPY Aptitude Test.
• Students selected under this programme as KVPY fellow will get Contingency grants till the pre-Ph. D Level. On the basis of Aptitude exam & Interview, fellowship will be awarded. The KVPY Exam will be held within the 1^st week of July 2018.
• KVPY application form 2018 is to be filled online only and the Aptitude test will be conducted in online mode only, from 2018 onwards.

Eligibility Criteria for KVPY 2018

Indian Nationals of all genders (except OCI and PIO) in Class 11^th, 12^th, and 1^st year undergraduate student in Basic Science are eligible to give this exam. Students pursuing B.Sc. /B.S. / B. Stat. / B. Math./ Int. M.Sc. / M.S. or Class 12^th or 11^th  (Science stream) can give this exam. In case of school students, the fellowship will be activated only if they join Basic Science course after Class 12^th.

KVPY Aptitude Exam would be conducted in three categories-

·         For Class 12 students- Stream SX

Candidate of Science stream in Class 12 should have enrolled in it in year 2018-19 and secured a minimum of 60% in Maths and Science (50% for SC/ST/PH). Also, he must have scored more than 80% in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in Class 10 (70% for SC/ST/PH).

·         For Class 11 students- Stream SA

Candidate of Science stream in Class 11 should have enrolled in it in year 2018-19 and must have scored more than 80% in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in Class 10 (70% for SC/ST/PH). He must have also secured a minimum of 60% in Maths and Science (50% for SC/ST/PH) in Class 12. Their fellowship will be activated only after they enrol in Basic Sciences in an undergraduate course and they will be mentored for one year at National Science Camp.

·         Stream SB

Candidate must have enrolled in 1^st year of undergraduate programme in Basic Science and must have secured a minimum of 60% in 1^st year examination as well as in Maths and Science (50% for SC/ST/PH) in Class 12.

Applying for KVPY and its process

The application for KVPY 2018 will be available from 3^rd week of July 2018. Candidate has to upload a scanned image of his/her photograph and signature, copy of Mark sheet of qualifying examination, Caste certificate if belonging to SC/ST, a Medical certificate if he/she is a PWD. The application fee for KVPY is Rs. 1000 for General/OBC and Rs. 500 for SC/ST/PWD and can be done using credit card/ATM-Debit card/Net Banking or by downloading an e-challan from the application portal.
