There are four types of warehousing :

Private warehousing- These kinds of warehouses are owned and operated by channel
suppliers and resellers.
Contract warehousing- This kind is on contract basis. A manufacturer may occupy the space
in a warehouse for a definite period of time and under a contract with the warehouse
owners.
Multi-Client- A single warehouse may be occupied by multiple manufacturers at a single
point in time.
There are certain activities involved in warehousing:
Goods identification- Goods are identified and stocked in categories
Receive goods- Goods received are tracked efficiently
Pick goods- Goods are picked
Hold goods- Goods are held for storage in case the delivery is not required
immediately
Store goods - Goods are stored
Maintain information system - The activity involves creating an information system
which keeps track of all items in a warehouse and their storage.
Dispatch shipment- Documents are prepared, order is packaged and goods are
loaded onto the vehicle
