Jim Corbett National Park is located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand at the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains and on the banks of the Ramganga River and spread over Pauri district and the city of Ramnagar. It is the oldest national park in India, established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. After the independence of India, the park was named Ramganga National Park, but in 1956 it was named after Jim Corbett. The park was named Jim Corbett National Park as a tribute to Jim Corbett and his contribution to wildlife conservation. It is spread over an area of about 1316 sq km from the banks of the Ramganga river. It is a unique center for tourists and wildlife lovers.
In 1974, Jim Corbett National Park was selected as the starting point for the Tiger project by a renowned conservation campaign. The park is an integral part of Project Tiger. Corbett National Park is one of the country's best managed and protected areas and attracts thousands of Indian and foreign tourists every year.
