IVF Process - Step by Step
Step 1: Meet with IVF Specialist
Your first step in creating a family begins with meeting our IVF specialist. To determine the best course of treatment for you, our IVF specialists will conduct a fertility survey during your initial consultation. You may be asked to have blood tests and ultrasounds to monitor hormone levels and evaluate uterine and ovarian function. We will ask you to provide relevant medical records and laboratory results if you have already received certain tests and treatments. If infertility is caused by a male factor, a semen analysis will be done. Based on your medical history, medical examinations and test results, we will create an individualized treatment plan for you.
Step 2: Ovarian Stimulation
The first step in your IVF treatment is to stimulate the growth of follicles in your ovaries to produce more eggs than usual. The more eggs you have, the more likely you are to have an embryo, which increases your chances of getting pregnant. Injections are made using the follicle-stimulating hormone FSH (in some cases, luteinizing hormone, LH) to stimulate the maturation of more follicles containing the eggs. FSH stimulation is done for approximately 10-12 days and during this we monitor the growth of follicles with ultrasound and blood tests until they reach the desired number and size. As soon as you have the optimum number of follicles ready, the hCG injection is activated for the final maturation of the eggs. This is usually done 36-40 hours before the scheduled egg retrieval.
Stage 3: Egg retrieval and sperm collection
Egg retrieval is a one-day procedure that is performed under sedation. The Donor egg IVF in Kenya is retrieved by inserting a thin needle under ultrasound guidance into the ovary and aspiration of the follicular fluid containing the egg from the ovarian follicle. After the follicular fluid is removed, it is immediately sent to a laboratory to check for the presence of eggs in it. The retrieved egg will be stored in the culture dish while the sperm is being prepared for fertilization.
Your partner can provide a sperm sample to our lab on the day you retrieve your egg. The best motile sperm are selected for fertilization of the egg.
Step 4: Embryo Transfer
Embryo transfer is a relatively minor procedure and does not require sedation in most cases. Eggs and sperm combine for fertilization. Between 3 and 5 days after fertilization, the best embryos with the greatest potential for implantation are selected for transfer. At this stage, couples most likely to pass on a genetic disease may consider genetic screening of the embryo using preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). The highest quality embryos are inserted into a thin catheter and transferred through the cervix into the uterus. Most women can continue their normal activities the day after the embryo transfer. Two weeks after the procedure, a blood test is done to confirm the pregnancy. READ MORE
