Is your Aadhaar Link to PAN? Deadline moved to March 2019 - Latest Update
The deadline to link your Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Aadhaar came and went on 30th June 2018. But if you haven’t already linked these two documents, there is no reason to worry (at least for now) because the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued another extension for the deadline. Now, you have up to 31st March 2019 to finish this task. But why wait until next year when you can complete the simple task of pan card link with aadhar card today itself.
Here are the Steps
There are two major ways on how you can link your Aadhaar and PAN details:
Online Linking Process
Linking through SMS facility
Online Linking Process
Through the online process, you have the option to link the two documents with or without logging into your account. Here, we discuss both the options.
Without Logging into your Account
Step #1: Go to the official Income Tax Department website: www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
Step #2: In the quick links section on the left pane, click on the option: Link Aadhaar
Step #3: Enter the following details:
Permanent Account Number (PAN)
Aadhaar number
Name as specified in your Aadhaar card
Enter the CAPTCHA code as provided on the page (visually challenged users can opt for the One Time Password (OTP) option instead of the image CAPTCHA.
Step #4: Click on: Link Aadhaar
Once the verification by UIDAI is completed, the linking of your PAN and Aadhaar will be confirmed.
With Logging into your Account
Step #1: Log into the official e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department with your User ID and password
Step #2: In case you are not registered, you can register yourself here: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home
Step #3: Once you log in, go to the tab named ‘Profile settings’ and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’
Step #4: Important details such as Name, Gender and Date of Birth are mentioned as per the details you have provided at the time of registering yourself on the e-filing portal. Verify the details appearing on the screen are the same as the ones mentioned in your Aadhaar.
Step #5: If the details match, you can enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the CAPTCHA code provided on the screen. During the entrance of Aadhar number, in case if you don’t have physical card that you can download e aadhar card online. You can download that e aadhar card simply with your registered mobile no and name.
Step #6: Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button on the bottom of the screen
Once the process is completed, you shall receive a pop-up message informing you that your Aadhaar card and your PAN card have been linked successfully.
Link through SMS Facility
Don’t have an internet connection? No problem. With the SMS facility, the Income Tax Department has made the process much easier for people to link their Aadhaar and PAN. All you need is a mobile phone to complete the process.
Follow these simple steps to successfully finish the Aadhaar-PAN link in no time.
Step #1: Send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in this format:
UIDPAN<SPACE><12-digit Aadhaar><Space><10-digit PAN>
For example, if your 12-digit Aadhaar number is 112358132134 and your 10-digit PAN is ABCDEFGHIJ, you need to send the following SMS
UIDPAN 112358132134 ABCDEFGHIJ
Send this SMS to 567678 or 56161 to link your Aadhaar and PAN.
Correction Facility in case your Aadhaar and PAN Details don’t match
The above methods work successfully only when all the details on your Aadhaar and your PAN card match completely. In case of any errors like spelling mistakes or abbreviated names, your PAN does not get linked with your Aadhaar.
In such a situation, you need to first correct the errors.
Visit the official NSDL website and update your PAN details. Once the details are corrected and updated, you will receive a mail from NSDL. Following this confirmation, you can proceed to link your PAN with Aadhaar.
