Migration from India to other countries has now become a worthwhile topic to discuss. Indians have been migrating to other countries from a long time, specially being at the top for migrations to Australia. Recent statistics has revealed that there are 33, 310 migrants from India during the period between June 2017-June 2018. Although Indian tops the list, there has been a considerable decline reflecting in the consensus of about 20.5 percent. The migrants are mostly skilled labour, family & special eligibility but ironically, they exclude students.

A major setback to visas has been the reduction of migration cap by 15 percent by the Australian Government (not including the student visa) to 1.60 lakh for the year 2019-20, commencing from July 1 has further worsened the system. The Australian government has redefined all the areas of Australia as regional except the metropolitan areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold coast & Perth. The government has planned to settle migrants in these regional areas to give relief to already populated & congested cities of Australia.

The Perth-based director of EasyMigrate Consultancy Services, Mr. Cyrus Mistry has pointed out that the migration cap reduction is similar to the final count which was accepted during the financial year ended June 30, 2018. Indians from the non-IT sector are said to get benefitted from this. As regional areas are devoid of IT companies, technology sector visas re-oriented towards the metro areas.

Mistry Informed, the regional visa will be benefitting most to those who are planning to work in the basic service sectors such as agriculture, hospitality, tourism, child care, geriatric care, medical fraternity, construction departments, machine maintenance, mining etcetera. These areas will not be able to fulfil the requirements of an IT or a techy aspirant.

Australian PM Scott Morrison released his statement in a press conference that regional Visa holders will be able to access permanent residence if they live & work in regional Australia for at least three years. To put it more clearly, they will get a permanent residence post in November 2022 if they apply now, in the current year.

According to immigration experts, the new structure of visa will coincide with the already available visa of the skilled workers. There are in total 23,000 seats out of the total availability of 1.6 lakh cap. The independent skilled visas allow visa holders to live & work anywhere in Australia.

Australia’s department of home affairs explains that the new provisional regional skilled visas will be provided to skilled workers as well their family members dependent on them. There will be in the total of two sets of class for the regional visas. One class, which is the skilled employer sponsored regional visa, will be applicable for workers who will be sponsored by an employer in regional Australia. The second class which is known as the skilled regional visa (Provisional) is for those who are nominated by a state or the territory government or by the eligible family members to be able to live & work in regional Australia.

These two classes of visa will have an expiry of up to five years against the current regional visa program of up to four years.

The pros & cons of the visas cannot be ruled out when one decides to apply a migration visa for Australia. The government wishes to cover a wide range of occupations by changes in the visa so as to encourage migration to other regions of Australia too. Also, these visas will comprise more to this for aspirants who wish to settle in regional Australia. This means more jobs & more income generating opportunities & with that more growth.

The skilled employers have been facing a lot of problem in relation to work opportunities because of skill shortages. This issue can be resolved by priority processing. Regional skilled workers will be able to lengthen the stay period. As India is a developing nation, there are a greater number of skilled workers. A major part of the Indian population might be only having basic education, but they are very well skilled in their own jobs. That is an added advantage for Indians who wish to migrate as skilled workers in Australia.
