Importance of Umrah in Islam

Summary:

Umrah is literally meant minor pilgrimage. Performing Umrah is a Sunnah whereas Haj is considered as obligatory. Despite being a lesser pilgrimage, deliberated as a very significant visit to the House of Allah Almighty ‘Kaaba’ for all the Muslims around the world.

Millions of Muslims get together in Mecca to worship Allah and make Tawaf of Allah’s House. Every Muslim is obliged to perform Haj at least once in a lifespan, whereas the act of Umrah can be performed in any month or time of the year except for in the month of Hajj.

It was also reported via various resources that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said,

“The performers of Hajj and Umrah are deputations of Allah (SWT). If they call Him, He answers them and if they seek His forgiveness, He forgives them”. 

Virtues of Umrah

There are numerous virtues. Pilgrims who leave their homes spend their time and wealth, and travel to Mecca with intention of Umrah or Haj are dearer to Allah Almighty. Umrah is a way of shedding one's sins. It purifies our souls. If a Muslim is capable of performing Umrah more than one time then he or she must opt for it. Our each and every action throughout the journey of Umrah is rewarded and cherished by Allah.

Source of Peace & Knowledge

A Muslim intending to perform Umrah must have knowledge about basics of Umrah inclusive of all obligatory actions. One must also know about the actions that nullify the virtues of Umrah and must not commit such sins. Umrah should be treated as an opportunity to shed the burden of one’s sins and pay off for all the mistakes.

Source of Forgiveness

The best way to make most of Hajj or Umrah is to follow footsteps of Allah’s beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). The last Prophet (P.B.U.H) of Allah Almighty has conveyed the virtues and benefits of Umrah via various Hadiths for our guidance. It thoroughly cleanses our souls and erases our past sins. It is the reason why most people perform multiple Umrah to wash away all the sins committed in life before Umrah.

Protects against Poverty

It is the source of protection against poverty. People, who spend their wealth for this great deed; are awarded much more wealth by Allah Almighty, as said by Prophet (P.B.U.H)
“Follow up the Hajj and Umrah, because they certainly remove poverty and sins as fire separate the impurities from iron, gold, and silver.”

The significance of Umrah in Ramadan

Umrah is one of the acts to please Allah and in return, Allah loves those people who work hard and struggle to worship Him. Moreover, Performed during Ramadan is of great importance and significance as the rewards and bounties of it are similar to that of rewards for performing Hajj. We should be thankful to Allah for blessing us with the opportunity to carry out Hajj or Umrah as t is the best remedy for all aches and sins.
