IELTS examination is carried out in two types: IELTS general training and IELTS academic. As the names suggest, IELTS academic is meant for students want to pursue higher education some kind of professional registration and IELTS general training is meant for students who want to pursue Secondary Education, some training programs temporarily or to gain work experience. The test of IELTS academic is for all those people or students who are applying for higher education from a foreign country. It is also required to be given at the time of professional registration in an environment where English is spoken. The test format for IELTS academic

 

The test format for IELTS academic deals with 6 sections. The names of those sections are listening, academic writing academic reading, general training reading, general training writing and speaking. The entire examination takes place within 3 hours. There are 30 minutes given for listening test. There are four tasks in the test format of listening. When we talk about the format of academic reading; please note that it consists of 40 questions in 60 minutes. There are 11 types of task that can be asked in IELTS academic reading. In IELTS general training reading, the test is for 60 minutes with 40 questions. There are 3 sections in the examination. In IELTS academic writing, there are two questions asked that you have to attempt in 60 minutes. The first task must be completed in 20 minutes and the second task must be completed in 40 minutes. General training writing it is also for 60 minutes with two tasks. In the speaking test, every candidate is given 11 to 14 minutes. It comprises of three parts and what the student speaks is recorded and then sent to the test takers.

In the first part, only the introduction and interview of the candidate takes place. You are given four to five minutes for giving your interview. In the second part, the candidate is given a long time, therefore, it is called as 'long turn'. The candidate is given three to four minutes to speak on the topic given. The third part is called as discussion. The candidate is again given four to five minutes to speak on the topic given by the examiner.

 

The test format for IELTS general training

 

IELTS general training is almost similar to IELTS academic. Please note that the entire test is completed in 2 hours and 45 minutes. This time period does not cover the speaking test. The speaking test is conducted may be on the same day awesome another day within a week after reading, writing and listening.
