Magic skirts, also known as sarongs, are a versatile one-size-fits-all skirt which is sort of a DIY fashion outfit. This addition to your wardrobe can prove to be extremely useful.

Magic skirts are usually made from silky fabrics, but they can also be made from any fabric of any texture or pattern that you Magic skirts almost an entire wardrobe in one material. It not only adds style to your outfit, it also works as a great sewing project for beginners.

Here is how you can make your own magic skirt

1.    Take a measuring tape and measure around your waist and multiply the measurement you get by two or rather just consider the double of the measurement you get. Now add two inches to the doubled measurement that you have considered. This will give you the appropriate width of the fabric that you will need.

2.    Now, measure down from your waist up to the length of skirt you want to keep and wear. Keep and added one inch for the hem you are going to stitch.

3.    Put and fabric on a flat hard surface, preferably a table, and spread out the fabric evenly on the surface. Use scissors to cut the fabric maintaining a diagonal line. One end should correspond with the measurement that you had taken down from your waist to your desired length of skirt. The other end must measure 14 inches accurately.

4.    Cut two extra pieces of the fabric with a measurement of 2.6 inches by 12 inches each. Fold both the pieces into halves respectively and keep the right side facing inward. Hem every piece along the three sides and sew them by hand preferably. If you are using a sewing machine, use a zigzag stitch. Iron the pieces. These pieces will be used as the ties of your magic skirt.

5.    Iron a hem along the two verticals of your skirt and sew the hem. Do the same thing along the bottom edge of your skirt. Keep a crease of one inch along the top edge of your skirt and iron it. This portion will be the waistband of your skirt.

6.    Finally, pin a waist-tie to both the ends of your waist band. Press one inch of fabric at a time for creating your waist band. Sew and press the hem every time.
