These firewoods results beneficial for the wood heaters only when they are properly seasoned and have the right moisture content.

Whether you use firewood for the fireplace or a wood-burning stove for cooking, heat and it is important to use the clean, and dry firewoods for burning. People generally buy firewood in lower mountains in bulk. This makes it easy for them to use the firewoods throughout the year and gives proper seasoning time to their firewoods. But the whole story of firewoods is not just limited to their age and seasoning, their storage also matters a lot. Choosing the right place for them and storing them perfectly helps to maintain their value.

It is essential to store the firewoods appropriately in winter. This is because the firewood can easily get wet. This further makes it difficult to burn them. The moisture from snow can make them prone to decay. Here are some tips that you can use to keep your firewood dry even in the winter.

Choose the right location:-

Generally, firewoods are stored in a woodshed or outdoors, but putting them in the wrong location can leave them prone to moisture from the melted snow. Make sure that you will store them in a place that gets good sunlight and is at least 30 feet away from the home. You can use a firewood rack for storing the firewoods properly. Storing the firewoods inside the house increases the risk of insects. So do not store them inside the house as well in the garage also.

Keep it off the ground:-

Many of us do the mistake of just putting the firewoods directly on the ground. Doing this will not allow accurate airflow around the stack bottom as well as will allow the moisture to move up from the ground into the firewoods. If at all possible, it is better to put them at least a few inches off of the ground. Along with this, you can also try to simply put a plastic sheet on the ground before storing them. This will help to prevent them from getting wet and prevent the buildup of insects.

Keep it dry:-

The main purpose behind storing the firewoods is to let them get dry and lose the excess moisture they have. People buy seasoned firewood in lower mountains to shorten the seasoning process and have ready-to-use firewoods. But when it comes to seasoning the unseasoned firewood, it is important to make sure that they will dry out properly and be good for burning in the winter.

To avoid the moisture and help the woods get dry easily, do not cover the whole thing completely. Doing this can trap the moisture and ill prevent the wood from drying properly. You can also use a woodshed to allow air to flow through it. They are best at protecting the firewoods from the rain and snow.
