How to Properly Perform Door and Window Installation

Door and window installation is one of the most important aspects of a new home build, remodeling project or replacement windows and doors. Properly installed windows and doors increase comfort, energy efficiency and security.

Measuring Before You Order:

The first step in any new window or door replacement is to measure the rough opening in the wall where the window will be placed. This is a critical measurement as it will help you determine the size of the window that will fit perfectly in the opening.

When measuring the opening, you should take measurements on the left side, right side, and the top of the opening. This will give you the width and height of the rough opening.

Once you have the measurements, you can begin ordering your new window or door. Once you have the measurements, it is important to round them down to the nearest 1/8 of an inch or so.

If you do not get the measurements accurately, it may lead to an air leak in your house or you will need to order a different window. This is a major time and money saver in the long run.

Measuring the Width and Height of Your Bay or Bow Window:

To determine the width of your bay or bow window, measure the width of each of the window panels from jamb to jamb, or trim to trim. It is important to note that the center window panel will likely be a little different than the others, so you need to measure this separately.
