How to Immigrate to Australia with 189 or 190 Visa
Australia is a popular destination
for skilled migrants who want to live and work in a developed country with a
high quality of life. Australia immigration
offers various visa options for skilled workers who can contribute to the
economy and fill skill shortages in different sectors. Two of the most common
visa options are the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and the Skilled
Nominated visa (subclass 190).
What Is the Skilled
Independent Visa (Subclass 189)?
The Skilled Independent visa
(subclass 189) is a permanent visa that allows skilled workers who are not
sponsored by an Australian employer or a state or territory government to live
and work anywhere in Australia. The 189 visa is based on a points system that
assesses the applicant's eligibility based on factors such as age, English
language proficiency, work experience, education, and other skills. To apply
for the Au 189 visa, you must:
- ·
Ensure
your occupation is listed in the relevant skilled occupation list
- ·
Successfully
complete a skills assessment for your chosen occupation
- ·
Express
your interest (EOI) in applying through SkillSelect and receive an invitation
to proceed
- ·
Achieve
a minimum score of 65 points on the points test
- ·
Fall
within the age range of 18 to 44 years old
- ·
Have
at least competent English
- ·
Meet
the health and character requirements
The 189 visa is highly competitive,
and meeting the eligibility requirements doesn't guarantee an invitation.
Invitations are based on points and occupation ceiling, with varying cut-off
points each month depending on demand and supply of skilled workers.
What Is the Skilled
Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)?
The Skilled Nominated visa (subclass
190) is also a permanent visa that allows skilled workers who are nominated by
an Australian state or territory government to live and work in Australia. The
190 visa is also based on a points system that assesses the applicant's
eligibility based on similar factors as the 189 visa. However, the main
difference is that you need to have a nomination from a state or territory
government that has a shortage of workers in your occupation. To apply for the Au 190 visa, you must:
- ·
Ensure
your occupation is included in the appropriate skilled occupation list
- ·
Successfully
undergo a skills assessment for your designated occupation
- · Submit
an EOI through SkillSelect and be nominated by a state or territory government
- ·
Fulfill
the minimum points requirement of 65 on the points test
- ·
Be
within the age range of 18 to 44 years old
- ·
Have
at least competent English
- ·
Meet
the health and character requirements
The 190 visa also requires you to
commit to living and working in the nominating state or territory for at least
two years after you are granted the visa. You may also need to meet additional
criteria set by the state or territory government, such as having a job offer,
having relevant work experience, or having studied in the region.
