How to identify the bad fuel injector?
Whether you belong to commercial vehicle management or the construction industry, you undoubtedly encounter the machines with the diesel engine. The diesel engine is being used widely due to its features like it offers fuel efficiency, reliability, power, performance and lower carbon emissions than gasoline. So, this blog is going to be very helpful for you to get a better understanding on the fuel injection system.
The diesel fuel injector has a very important role in the engine. It pressurizes diesel fuel and pumps it through a fixed or electronically controlled aperture (opening). It delivers the fuel to the engine in the form of spray or mist to make it easier to burn than a heavy stream. The mist also burns more efficiently and evenly.
The diesel fuel injection includes a Fuel Injection Pump, high-pressure pipe, injection nozzle, feed pump, and fuel filter. It also includes fuel sediment at the bottom of the filter to separate water content from the fuel.
Due to the viscosity property of diesel, when it comes in contact with the dirt, it holds the dirt particles and debris in the suspension. So, the Powerstroke Fuel Injector Cup Kit requires cleaning & proper maintenance at an interval of time. Additionally, due to the clogged or dirty fuel injector, the fuel may dribble out instead of strong & fine mist and that could be a reason for engine breakdown.
However, it is observed in the major cases that the inefficiency or diesel engine failure is caused either due to the dirty & clogged fuel injectors or water or air in the fuel injection system.
How to identify the Clogged & Dirty Fuel injector?
Tracktech Fasteners suggests the signs that are often seen in the clogged & dirty fuel injectors, some of them are as following:
Hard starts
Rough idling
Exponentially decreased Fuel mileage
Poor performance
Black smoke from the exhaust manifold
Noisy at ignition
Miss self-start
Tips & Tricks to maintain diesel fuel injector
For proper maintenance of the diesel fuel injector to get the best results, the following steps are required:
At first instance, Please refer to the service manual of your vehicle and proceed for the next steps.
Replace the engine oil as per the requirement of the vehicle engine or after a short interval.
Replace oil filter on service of your engine at a short interval.
Use high-quality additives to protect your Oil Supply Rail End Plug.
Remove the pressure of your fuel injection system.
Drain out the excess diesel using a drain valve.
Remove the sensor plugs from the fuel filter.
Open the fuel filter.
Lubricate the new fuel injector and place it into the fuel filter using grease.
Close drain valves and Tighten the screws.
Place wire plugs in the fuel filter.
Start the Engine & check for the leakage. If there is any leakage from the engine, Stop the engine and Troubleshoot the problem.
