Tablets have numerous use cases. They have brought a radical change in the user experiences with larger display as compared to smartphones. You can enjoy videos and movies more on tablets as compared to smartphones. But, what if you are craving for a bigger screen? What if you want to view videos or movies on a screen that is larger than a tablet?

Well, grab your popcorn and tie your seatbelts as you can enhance the multimedia experience by connecting tablet to an external monitor or a flat-screen TV. Watch movies the way you watch them in theatre. And what gives you a better viewing experience? Computer adapters.

Here is a brief yet step-by-step guide to enable you to connect tablet to a larger screen:

Check Your Tablet’s Ports

Firstly, take a close look at the tablet’s ports. It is necessary because the ports of the tablets have started advancing with every passing year. Traditionally, tablets had just video ports. Now, the new tablets have USB-C or USB Type-C ports. Many smartphone manufacturers provide USB Type-C ports in the latest tablets. With the growing popularity of USB-C connector system and its features, we expect Android tablet developers to follow the suit.

Some of the latest tablets come with USB 2.0 micro-B ports. Lenovo and Amazon tablets are the examples. A mini DisplayPort is available in Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and MacBook’s latest versions like MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

You may find micro, mini, or full-size HDMI port in the oder tablet. The biggest benefit with an HDMI is it can provide HD audio and video.

Check Video Input on Monitor or TV

Let’s go to the second step. You need to find the video input on your HDTV or monitor. Usually, flat-screen TVs have standard (Full-size) HDMI port, DisplayPort, DVI or VGA connections. However, you can get audio with HDMI and DisplayPort technologies only. It is because, DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and VGA (Video Graphics Array) only support videos.

Now the real role of computer adapters starts. Depending on the ports of both tablet and TV or monitor, you need to select a  proper cable with correct connectors on both the ends. Suppose, your tablet has a USB Type-C port and a TV has a HDMI port. All you need is a cable with USB Type-C male on one end and an HDMI connector on the other end.

You can also connect an computer adapter to a A/V cable. Let’s take MacBook, for example. MacBook Pro and MacBook Air have a mini DisplayPort. You can connect the DisplayPort to an external monitor using a mini DisplayPort (male) to DVI (female) adapter. Here, the mini DisplayPort end plugs into the tablet whereas the DVI cable of a monitor connects to the adapter’s DVI port.

In a Nutshell

With a right computer adapter, you can transform your tablet into a powerful multimedia device. A whole new and more exciting multimedia experience awaits you!
