There is no doubt that children are the best commodity that the world has, they are a valuable resource and our fuel to the future, unfortunately too many of them are being abused, neglected, malnourished, with no hope. The problem is worldwide and it needs to be addressed because today’s problem will be a bigger headache for everyone in the future. Every day in the news there are stories of a child being beaten, abused, or even worse, especially in parts of the world where there are wars and famine, it is a terrible thing to see.

Here in North America, there are many children that need help for one reason or another which is why people need to make an effort to do whatever they can to help because it does affect us all.Thankfully there are people out there who are doing whatever they can to help, it doesn’t matter if a person is rich or poor, there are many ways to help these kids. Peter Brigeris one such person who is very active in causes that involve children, education, and poverty alleviation. He is the Principal and Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors at Fortress Investment Group, located in San Francisco, California where he has been there since 2002.

Founded in 1998, the Fortress Investment Group is a leading highly diversified global manager with around $74.3 billion of assets under management as of quarter ending September 2015. They offer a wide range of traditional and alternative investment strategies for private and institutional investors around the world.

Peter oversees the investment group’s credit fund and its real estate business while guiding the firm’s operations in several management roles since joining the firm. Before that he worked for Goldman Sachs for fifteen years where he learned everything he could in foreign investing, especially in the Asian Markets where he assumed the leadership role in groups that were working on distressed debt in the Asian markets, special investment opportunities in Asia, such as loan sales, trading, and real estate. He also belonged to the Global Control and Compliance Committee, the Japan Executive Committee as well as the Asian Management Committee. Goldman’s was very impressed with his work that they made him a partner in 1996.

He went to Princeton University where he earned his B.A., from there he studied at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania where he received his MBA. While he is indeed a businessman he takes the time to provide his time and his skills to several organizations that help children as well as the saving the outdoors, such as, being involved with the Central Park Conservancy which manages Central Park on behalf of New York City which raises 75 percent of the Park’s annual budget and is responsible for keeping the park beautiful. So far, they have raised close to $800 million, which is used to maintain over 843 acres with over 42 million people visiting each year.

When coming across Pete Briger blogs one of the organizations they will see his involvement in is with Tipping Point Community that is fighting poverty in San Francisco with grants. Founded in 2005, they search non-profits to fund and partner with groups connecting them with individuals and families to have opportunities needed to help them break the cycle of poverty and achieve economic stability. They have raised over $100 million to help support nearly 600,000 Bay area residents who are in need. What most people fail to realize is many of these people just need a break whether it’s finding a job, learning a skill, housing, and to be able to get back on their feet. Too many times they are the forgotten in a society that is too busy thinking about themselves. This is why Tipping Point is lucky to have Peter on the board who is doing what he can to help. Every cent that is donated goes directly to fight poverty, the board members cover all the expenses.

Another organization that combines children and education together is the Caliber Schools located in the San Francisco Bay area. They are a network of innovative charter schools who are making it their mission to provide free, personalized college preparatory education to children. They are seeking founding leaders for the new campuses in Richmond and Vallejo as they are looking to expand. Every child deserves a good strong education no matter where their zip code happens to be, every child needs at least a chance. This is why Peter along with Devon have created the Peter and Devon Briger Foundation which supports the Caliber Schools.

Both he and his wife are very active in charities throughout the year by providing their time and money. Peter is also involved with the Global Fund for Children which helps community-based organizations around the world improve their ability to help serve children in high-risk demographics. A person’s true character comes through when they help others, especially children, so if one happens to find Pete Briger blogs, they will see all the good work he continues to do.
