Our Declaration of Independence says govt by the people, for the people and of the people.
Whose income is being threatened by the "Default" discussions?
Are they discussing congress payroll stopping? Not that I hear! I hear military, active and retired; I hear social security, disability and age related.
Even the talk of disrupting our (for the people) only source of income is disruption. What about the emotional trauma (FEAR)!!!

Under the 16th Amendment corporations pays the taxes while those who works for the corporations don't pay taxes. So, what we have here is just the reverse. DEAR CONGRESS, Last year I mismanaged my funds and this year my family and I cannot decide on a budget. @ Patsy. You've brought up a great point of the elected officials salary who is suppose to serve the people,but instead serves big business once they get in office. Only time a representative needs their constituents is 1. campaign contributions 2. Your Vote. When the public votes they are voting in a candidate that will have the very best medical coverage you and I will never have unless you are a millionaire.
Now the figures you stated above is a drop in the bucket to the root of problem.
