Boston, MA, ‎April 15,‎2017. Lawrence High School partners with Global Deeds to bring higher-paying jobs to low-income youth. This effort is in response to the growing number of low-income students from underrepresented groups who would like to train more to earn enough to help themselves and their families. This program is currently being done at Lawrence High School with support from the Boston non-profit organization.

Global Deeds is planning to co-sponsor the certification of teachers (and later, students) through the Cisco Net Academy. This training course is now part of the curriculum at Lawrence High School to further assist students in earning entry certifications towards becoming networking professionals.   Lawrence High School students in the program are provided career development opportunities through after-school programs conducted within the school as well as in nearby colleges. Mr. Steven McDonald, a computer science teacher at Lawrence High School, is currently working with 46 students who are going through the program and there are plans to double the amount of students engaged in the networking classes next school year.  There are also 40+ more students who benefited from the Global Deeds non-profit’s field trips, workshops and “opportunity-matching” services, which will soon be offered through a portal online to a much larger group of students. Currently, students in the program are preparing to obtain certification under Cisco, and several of them have already been offered positions within the IT industry upon successful completion of the program.

Aside from IT Essentials, there will be new computer science courses offered at Lawrence High School, and students may now take Cyber Security 101/102 and CCNA or Cisco Certified Network Associate IT certification program.  Global Deeds seeks to raise funds to defray the cost of certifications for teachers and students.  Aside from certifications and training on business / soft skills, there are also scholarships and stipends for conferences provided by Global Deeds Foundation.More information about Global Deeds is available at http://globaldeeds.org

Global Deeds re-focused its mission and vision based on an alarming global situation.  Over the next 8 years, there will be an increased need to create more than 600 million jobs that do not exist, to curb a financial crisis that has never been seen before. And even if such jobs existed, nearly no one is qualified or has no expertise to take on these jobs. Global Deeds works on helping those at the bottom of the pyramid qualify for the jobs of the near future, all the while lifting youth out of poverty.

A few words from Katherine Montero, Harvard graduate and founder of Global Deeds: “The level of
underutilized human capital worldwide is overwhelming!” She added, “We are a hybrid social enterprise focused on taking away the stress of finding modern educational and financial opportunities for youth living in poverty.  They learn how to become financially independent through training in business, computer science and personal development.  Through our collaborative network we bring the best available resources packaged as THE most powerful tool within schools against economic crisis.”
