Make sure your card information is up to date
An expired credit card or an inaccurate billing address are two common reasons for payments failing. You can view which payment methods you’ve saved in Google Pay, as well as their expiration dates. You can also check if your zip code matches your billing address by clicking “Edit” on any listed payment option.

Submit any requested information
If you receive an error notice asking you to provide more information to Google, please follow the instructions to provide that information. For example, before you can use your Google account to make a purchase, you may need to authenticate your identity on Google Pay.

Check you have enough funds for the purchase
In some cases, a transaction is refused due to a lack of funds. Make sure you have enough money in your account to finish the purchase.

An authorization hold on your account may appear after you sign up for a free trial. This hold is in place to guarantee that your payment method is valid, and it will be lifted and repaid by your bank after a short period of time. If you don’t have the hold amount in your account, however, your sign-up may fail.

Contact your bank or card issuer
Your card may have limitations that prevent you from making a payment. Inquire about the transaction with the bank or firm that issued your card to see if they are aware of the cause for the decline.

If you’re not in the United States, make sure your card and bank can handle foreign transactions. Depending on your country, you may also need to contact your bank to authorize your card’s use for online transactions.

If the initial payment method you tried failed, you can try a different one. Return to the purchasing screen and add or change a payment method.

If a payment option is greyed out while making a purchase on YouTube, that payment method isn’t valid for that purchase. To finish your transaction, use a different payment method.

Problems with other ways of payment
When utilizing certain payment methods, you may receive the following message: “Your payment was denied due to an issue with your account.”

You may be seeing this message because:

On your payments profile, there is a questionable transaction.

To safeguard your account from fraud, you’ll need a little more information.

To comply with EU law, you’ll need a little additional information (Customers from European Union member states only).

You must try your purchase again after updating your payment details because they will not attempt to automatically recharge you.
