Five Steps to Apply For a Canadian Student Visa
Canada
is a famous study destination for over 130,000 international students each
year. However, the road to education in Canada is not that easy. One of the
most critical steps of the process is figuring out how to apply for a student
permit in Canada.
Who Doesn't Need a Canadian Student
Visa?
The
following students don't need a Canadian student visa.
●
The student is related to or is a staff member
of a Canadian foreign representative.
●
The study program is under six months.
●
One is a member of the army.
●
The student has an Indian status registered in
Canada. However, they need an electronic travel authorization to move in.
The Five Steps to a Successful Canadian
Educational Journey
These
are the five steps that students must follow to apply for their Canadian
student visa successfully.
Get The University Acceptance Letter
First
and foremost, the students require to know which universities suit their
profile and shortlist them. It is an excellent practice to shortlist at least
three universities they are interested in, two as backup options.
It
can be tough to sort the universities into the dream, reach, and safe
categories. But once students know their profiles and which universities need
them, it becomes easier. Of course, after applying to the universities, the
students need an acceptance letter from at least one of them, but the more, the
better.
Start Filling Out The Visa Application
As
soon as the students get their acceptance letter, they need to fill out the
visa application for the Canadian student visa, aka student permit. Browse the
citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC) website and apply directly.
This
way, students can save the courier fees, and they won't have to wait for
physical mail. In addition, the processes will be faster this way, and the
students will directly receive application status updates. Students who have
limited internet access can apply on paper. After that, they need to fill out
the details. Here are the visa application requirements. Please read them
carefully.
●
The Canadian student visa application form.
●
Original copy of acceptance letter from the
selected university.
●
A legal passport.
●
Two latest passport-size pictures, with name
and birthdate written on the backside.
●
Evidence of financial support, which represents
the tuition fee of 833 Canadian dollars per month. An exception is Quebec which
is 917 Canadian dollars per month.
●
An explanation letter.
●
Evidence that the student paid 150 Canadian
dollars, which happens to be the application fee.
●
For Quebec, students also need a Certificat
d'acceptation du Québec, English and French translations, a statement from the
translator, and accredited copies of their original documents.
Know The Visa Conditions
Some
specific terms and conditions come with a Canadian student permit. For example,
one of them says that if the student's family member is working in the country
or has applied for a work visa, their student visa will be processed within two
weeks. If that's not the scenario, then the application processing time is 90
days. However, this also depends on the home country of the students.
Students
can also renew or extend their visas so that they can continue their studies or
change universities. After finishing their studies, they will get a
notification regarding it, after which their visa will expire within 90 days.
During that time, they can have fun in Canada or apply for a work visa that
allows them to get a full-time, part-time job or become self-employed.
Know The Language Needs
Students
living in English-speaking countries don't need to worry about language
requirements. However, other students need to prove proficiency in English by
passing the IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge English: advanced as Canadian
institutions accept these tests.
Students
will notice that the visa requirements don't need this proof, but they still
need to apply to a university.
Schedule An Interview
Students
from some countries need to give their biometrics. The fee for providing
biometrics is 85 CAD. If one's nation is not on such a list, they don't need to
do it. However, they might need to give an interview at their local interview
center as per the requirements. They will be charged a small fee for this.
