The Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota Kirloskar Motors Private Limited, had unveiled their Toyota Etios Cross at the Auto Expo 2014 in New Delhi. Two years have passed and we have seen another Auto Expo. Nevertheless, this compact crossover is still on the top rung in the market. As a compact crossover, the Toyota Etios Cross offers all the qualities of a SUV and at the same time the utility and practicality of a hatchback car. Toyota is keen on attracting the youth towards their crossover with its aggressive stance and ruggedness, and it has worked wonderfully.

Exterior

Though based on the Liva hatchback with the same ground clearance and mechanics, the Toyota Etios Cross looks much muscular that the hatchback. Interior

The interiors are spacious and look more airy due to the dual tone black and beige colour scheme which comes with a glossy black and silver finish. The seats are adjustable and are covered by good quality fabric. The comfortable head rests are a boon for the rear passengers during long journeys. The storage is taken care by cup holders, bottle holders, accessory power outlets, and a glove box unit. Other features include an air conditioning unit, 2 Din music system and an advanced instrument panel. The car comes with safety and comfort features like power windows and steering, ABS, dual airbags, central locking, child safety locks, fog lights and rear defogger apart from a strong collision absorbing body.

Engine options

The Etios Cross is available in three engine options. The 1.2 litre petrol unit generates 76 bhp of power while the 1.5 litre petrol engine produces 89 bhp of power. The 1.4 litre diesel unit churns 67 bhp of power. Both the petrol and diesel engine are mated to a five speed gear box with manual transmission and dual clutch type. The car is expected to deliver a mileage of around 16 to 17 kmpl for the petrol engines and 23 kmpl for the diesel variant. The ride and handling on all types of roads are pretty good.

Price

The petrol and diesel variants of the Toyota Etios Cross are available in the range of Rs 5.7-7.4 lakhs approximately.

Competition

 The Etios Cross faces tough competition from its arch rivals, Volkswagen Cross Polo, Fiat Punto Adventure, Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. Etios Cross comes across as the best vehicle for customers who want a rough vehicle that will score immensely over hatchbacks.
