If you are one of the lucky half-a-million tourists who will visit Israel this summer then you must know about the rich and diverse Israeli food culture. In this blog, we would like to help you sort out the most popular options of foods that Israel offers.
Israelis are spoiled about their food! They’ve been spoiled by granny’s who express their love to their children through food. A lot of food!!

The Israelis are habituated to typical, strong flavors, when it comes to the street food of the country.  The Israeli taste is so different from American’s that they kicked out two major American companies Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts that tried to open branches in Israel.

Israelis like their own version of coffee and their donuts which they eat on Hanukkah. Not only that, McDonald’s too had to change its recipe to match the taste of Israelis. Israel is the only country in the world where the McDonald chain had to try harder to get accepted by locals. Respect!

Here is a list of some famous traditional Israeli street foods that you must try during your trip. You can easily find these foods across the country.

Falafel- Though falafel is originally from Egypt but it is considered as the king of Israeli food. A mouth-watering mixture of chickpeas, fava beans, liberally applied spices. After that the falafel balls are thrust into a pita along with freshly cut hummus, salads, tehina sauce, pickled vegetables and some chips.

You can easily find falafel on almost every street corner of Israel. Undoubtedly it is a cheap and very satisfying meal.

Hummus- originated from Lebanon, hummus is considered as prince of Israeli food. Hummus is a kind of dip or spread made from crushed chickpeas mixed with lemon, olive oil, tehina sauce, salt and garlic. It is known for its nutritional value. There are many restaurants in Israel which serve hummus.

Shwarma- You can often find shwarma in closely the same place as falafel. It is just another street food that is extremely popular in Israel. Shwarma is typically slices of chicken, turkey or lamb, which are typically shaved off a huge slab of meat rotating on a big spit.

Jachnun- Jachnun is a traditional Yemenite dish which is considered as king of weekend eating because it is served only on a Saturday morning. Jachnun is made of rolled dough made with plenty of margerine, which is then cooked for around 10-12 hours.

Shakshooka-  Another incredible traditional Israeli food is Shakshooka. This is a blend of onions, tomatoes, garlic, and several spices such as sweet paprika, topped off with a poached egg.
