The production and manufacturing industry is wide enough and you cannot deny from the hundreds of machinery tools which are must in this industry. Drill bit sets with drilling capabilities are important enough for doing any industrial job. However, you should always pick the right bit for getting the right type of hole. Every material has distinctness in nature, and a right type of bit can reduce the efforts and time on drilling and can make a perfect hole with proper finishing

The machine shop has several bits; each is designed to bore specific type of hole. To give a fine output to your efforts and your labor, you need to use the right type of bit. Otherwise, you may miss the perfect outcome. To understand about the bits, you should be familiar with the terminology first. Let’s discuss about the terminology to better understand about the bits and their parts.

Tip: As its name implies, it is the top of a bit with sharp edges. It is designed to initiate the drilling process, providing a center position to bit for the beginning. This tip is the primary factor to bore a precise hole.

Lip: Just below the tip, there is a line which is spiraled down which is called as the lips. Every spiral cutting edge forms a lip angle which defines about the aggressiveness of the bit.

Flute: Flutes are the hollow groves which are the result of lips cutting edge. Beneath the lips, the flute is the best part of a bit to eject the debris or wastage materials which generate during the drilling process. The deeper a bit drill, the huge material expels out from the flute. The larger flute is capable in extracting more debris in less time for offering proper finishing in drilling process. And thus, we can get an accurate hole with proper finishing.

Spiral: Lips and flutes when combined, creates the spiral. Spirals are in twisted form, and each twist determines the rate of material removal, during the drilling process. Quality of hole also depends on the spiral.

Shank: This is the part of bit which is being fitted by artisans in drill chuck for enhancing the performance of driller man. This generally seems not so important, but plays a very important role in boring holes.

Each bit has all these parts for slightly different characteristics. The lip and tip decide about the behavior of a drill bit. They are structured differently to bore different types and sizes of holes in different materials.

These bits are also manufactured from several types of materials and are coated also for providing precise result in drilling. They are classified further, according to their shape and size as well. If you want to bore holes in soft wood and plastic, then drill bit sets made up of low-carbon steel can solve your purpose.

High carbon steel on the other side performs well on wooden and metal surfaces, but cannot survive longer on high temperature. For wood, metal, and most ceramic materials, nothing can withstand on a very high temperature than high speed steel. HSS bits are designed specifically for this purpose, and can maintain the accuracy and its shape at high speed for which it is named for.

Overall, keeping the type of material and the basic terminology of bits, you can bore a precise hole using a right type of bit.
