Canon is a popular Japanese company that manufactures a wide range of imaging devices. This company is famous for manufacturing cameras and medical equipment. In hardware, Canon provides advanced printers. These printers are very reliable and easy to set up. New printers offer multiple functions as you can use the printer for taking printouts, scanning documents, or as a copier. You can configure your printer to PC, tablets, iDevices, and phone devices easily.

Things to check before configuring the Canon printer

  1. Your Canon printer must be compatible to your device
  2. Check for the USB cord and power cable
  3. The OS of your device must be updated
  4. Use a secured network for printer sharing over Wi-Fi
  5. Cartridges must be installed properly
  6. Check for pages on the input tray

Connecting Canon printer to PC using cable

Connecting a Canon printer using a cable is very easy. Check for the cable you received with the printer. Now go to the PC and follow the given steps:

  1. Open Devices folder
  2. Tap on Printers & Scanners
  3. Click on Add a Device
  4. Wait until your Canon printer appears on the list
  5. Tap on your printer name and hit on Connect
  6. Now your Canon printer is connected to the PC.

After connecting the printer, you need a printer driver to complete the configuration.

Install the Canon printer driver on your PC

Your printer requires a driver to communicate with the computer. After connecting the printer to the PC with the cable, get the printer driver. Check for the CD you get with the computer. Use the CD and copy the Canon printer driver to your device. Now run and install the driver on your device. If your PC doesn’t have a disc drive then you can get the driver from the web. But before downloading the setup, please check the Canon printer model. Now visit the Canon printer website and search for the driver of your Canon printer. Download the setup on your device and install it correctly. Now wait until your printer recognizes the driver. Your Canon printer will show active status and now you can take the printouts.

Connecting Canon printer to PC wirelessly

You can connect the Canon printer to the PC without using any cable. If your cable is not working or you have placed the printer bit far from the PC then use a direct wireless printer connection. Change the printer settings to a wireless connection. You may have to go for a Canon printer reset to get the inbuilt settings. Now you can easily connect the printer wirelessly.

  1. Go to Canon printer and enable Wi-Fi
  2. The Wi-Fi lamp of the printer will start blinking
  3. Go to your PC and enable Wi-Fi
  4. Open Devices folder
  5. Select Printers and Scanners
  6. Click on Add a Device option
  7. Wait until you see the Canon printer on the screen
  8. Select your printer
  9. The printer will show the connected status

Your printer will start searching for the driver. Once the printer finds the driver, it will show Online status and now you can start printing your documents. Meanwhile, the printer will run a bit slow with a wireless connection.

Connecting Canon printer to the network

You can also share your Canon printer with the network. This feature is helpful when you have multiple devices and you want to access your Canon printer from all. For this, you can add your Canon printer to the shred network. After connection, you can easily access your printer from any device on that network.

Steps to Connect Canon Printer to Network

  1. Go to Canon printer and enable the Wi-Fi
  2. Now check your router and enable the WPS pin
  3. The printer lamp will start blinking and search network
  4. Check your Canon printer screen for available networks
  5. Select your network and tap on Connect button
  6. Enter the password and hit on Confirm

After connecting the printer to the network; go to any device on the same network. Search for your printer and take the printouts wirelessly.

Common problems in Canon printer connection

Printer is showing offline status

Your printer will show an error when it can’t find the required driver. If you are using a network printer, you still need a driver. Your printer will show Connected status but won’t communicate with the PC until you get the driver. Check the printer model and now install the driver on every system. Now reconnect the printer and start taking the printouts easily.

The printer is not connecting to the network

Printers often get issues while connecting to the network. To fix these problems, you should check the network. If the network is not stable, wait until the network gets stable and smooth, and then retry to connect the printer. Also, check your network for firewalls. People often secure the device using a firewall. This firewall protects the network from all threats and unknown connections. Your firewall may restrict the printer from connecting to the network. Go to the PC and disable the firewall. After disabling the firewall, retry to connect the printer. Now check whether the printer is connected to the network or not.
