Dental Assistants: Career, Salary and Education Information
A dental assistant is an integral part of a dental team,
helping to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Working
alongside dentists and other dental technicians, dental assistants perform a variety
of tasks, from cleaning and polishing teeth to helping with more complex
procedures. They also help to keep the office running smoothly and make sure
that all of the necessary supplies are always readily available.
The job of a
dental technician requires a
dedicated and outgoing individual who is passionate about helping others. The
primary responsibility of a dental assistant is to assist the dentist in providing
high-quality dental care to patients. This includes a variety of duties, such
as preparing patients for treatment, sterilizing instruments, taking x-rays,
and helping to educate patients about their oral health. Dental assistants must
also be able to interact with patients in a professional manner and be
knowledgeable about the various dental procedures and products available.
Dental
assistants must be detail-oriented and organized, as they must be able to keep
track of all of the supplies and equipment necessary for a successful dental
appointment. They must also be comfortable working with a variety of people,
including dentists, dental technicians, and patients. Additionally, dental
assistants must be comfortable working with technology, such as computers and
dental software.
In order to
become a dental assistant, individuals must complete a dental
assistant program and pass the National Entry Level Dental Assistant (NELDA)
exam. This exam covers topics such as dental anatomy, dental materials, and
safety and infection control. Completing the NELDA exam is necessary in order
to obtain a dental assistant certification.
Overall, a
dental assistant is an important part of a dental team, providing a variety of
services to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. With the right
training and certification, a dental assistant can make a meaningful
contribution to the dental industry.
