Convenience and Compatibility Making Strides in Hearing Aid Technology
Hearing aids fall into three main categories,
digital, analog and conventional. Here’s a look at them in detail
Types
of Hearing Aids
Digital programmable hearing aids use DSP or digital
sound processing technology. When the computer chip embedded within the aid
separates the noise from speech, it changes the sound waves into digital
signals resulting in a loud and clear output. This technology can adjust and
change sound to meet the needs of the user. The hearing aid is easier to
program, it fits well and gives out less feedback. Upgraded models also allow
the user to program to different settings for different applications. Some of
them such as Bluetooth hearing aids possess wireless connectivity features
which facilitate communication between devices. Conventional hearing aids
require an audiologist to manually change the settings based on hearing test
results. It does not allow for multiple settings but it is very affordable.
Analog programmable hearing aids require the help of an audiologist to change
the multiple settings which can cater to different environments.
Wireless
Connectivity in Hearing Aids
Streamers or compatible assistive listening devices
which act as a communication link are used by wireless hearing aids. There are
two factors to consider in wireless connectivity. First of all each of the
hearing aids should be able to work as a team to take in the sounds from the environment
and make changes accordingly. This means that the program
and volume settings of one ear will match with the other so as to provide
clarity of speech without any distortion or delay. Wireless technology
facilitates communication of a hearing aid with other outside electronic
devices. This allows the user to be able to talk on the phone, enjoy a T.V show
or enjoy music. Once the hearing aid connects wirelessly with a device it will
translate the sound signals into a compatible form. Bluetooth hearing aids remotely
connect with electronic devices, be it a laptop, T.V or tablet enabling the
user to listen to music directly without any additional equipment. The user can
also control the volume without any outside interference or without disturbing
anyone else. The streamer can easily switch between various devices and also
pair with multiple devices at a time.
The technology used in wireless hearing aids is
based on reliable standardized testing which is refined to produce simple,
clear, safe and uniform sound that can be easily adjusted and changed to suit
your requirements in any environment.
