Contact Request here on APSense
Hi all,
today again I asked myself: How is it possible that a new member here requests a contact but hide all his information, i.e. information is shown to contacts only.
What is the benefit of a 'hidden membership'. When someone asks me to connect with him, I want to have an idea of this person. I want something to know about his interests, his likes and dislikes :)
Therefore to my opinion, people who want to hide their information should not send out requests as it might be harsh to be declined. I actually decline people with a 'private profile'. It might be wrong and the person might become a great conversation or business partner... At least I want to have an idea of him/her.
Take it from the other side: Why should I join your list? You know a little bit of my interests, you may have read something from me - so you have an idea who I am. When things are doing well, I only have photo (is it really you?) which does not communicate anything.
Different then in real life, I don't feel vibrations from you to me, I cannot read from your face or postures of your body... When taking part in a Social Net on the Internet some further information is needed. And yep it is already difficult to stay in contact with all the contacts... at least from time to time.
I don't know what others are looking for when connecting with members - for ex. for me it should be a similar interest, so we can discuss and change ideas, or knowledge I don't have, so I can learn from this person etc.
I have to admit that the interaction with my connections here or on other places is low because it takes time, time I don't have...
Therefore a person who joins APSense because of social interaction should think twice before making his/her profile private and ask others to connect with him/her.
Another way could be, when the private status is so much loved, to explain, why he/she wants to be connected and what are his/her interest.

Great Discussions and great points made therE I agree with Mosian and repeat "I don't know what others are looking for when connecting with members - for ex. for me it should be a similar interest, so we can discuss and change ideas, or knowledge I don't have, so I can learn from this person etc" there are other aspects also that is the pleasure o sharing pleasure of connecting with people at Apsensealong with other social networking sites Apsense is Unique in its own way and stands out like a

Such a great point to think on, @Rieke has mentioned here. When one send the request and not allow their profile to see ,then how can one decide whether accept or not.
But it also the great point that it is not the matter to worry on more and just accept the request and then if not liked to connect with that person, then delete from your connection. Not such a great matter!

Philleppe thanks for concise comments as "I don't decline requests, I don't care if I don't see the profile info, I mean, some people might not realize the implications of hiding their profile on a business social network, some will learn better, it's not much of a problem. If the person starts sending links in PMs, then it becomes a problem if it doesn't stop, otherwise, they see what I do on their network feed, it can't be negative" that is a wonderful way well I think one should not get offe

I just received a contact request from Santa Clause. Really?!?!? Santa Clause? Come on, be more original. This is why I am selective about who I accept.

Great note @Rieke! ~ It is frustrating to those who accept most of all the contact requests, and also frustrating to those who don't. Being on a social site, like Apsense, is a lot better than Facebook, I think, and people should want to get to know each other.
Cheers!

@Elizabeth: I like you comment - as 'declining' someone, to my inner self sounds a little bit harsh. The purpose of my article was to bring this 'issue' on the table and people may reflect about it :)
As mentioned here - APSense is a Social Biz Network, different to FB.
@Philippe: Yes, you are right - declining or not - a little bit comes into game the inspiration you get from the request :)

Look at it from both sides: I agree Philippe, I don't decline any requests to contact; some people are shy, some may not know what they did, some may be brand new to the site, AND if by chance you find out later you have made a mistake, then you can always Un-friend them. Give people your best foot, if they stick it in their mouths, then you can just kindly let them know what the rules are.
Most people just don't know they may have hidden their profile unless they've been told.
Cheers!

Today everyone is on guard against S.P.A.M. When I get a request for contact that smells like it I deny it. PPLCheryl is correct, it is a business site. If you were going down the street and you saw a resturant that was purposly blocking its identity would you still eat there?

You hammer the nail on the head Rieke! In my opinion, if one hide his/her profile, it mean that even the rest of your 'things' that you are going to share with us here will be hidden. Meaning, no one should trust you and your biz opps. The information required at Apsense to be shown to the public, I believe is not that sensitive to be hidden.
As a honest and trustworthy marketer or whoever you are, if you want to hide your profile, kindly, please do yourself a favour by not coming or even nev

PPLCHERYL163 You have as always a very valid point ther I had many of my contact requests declined by some eminent people here on the internet site that is apsense . It s perfectly ok and fine with me . I think keeping the profile open for public is purely a p ersonal matter and to hide it looks ok to me Apsense is a socio businessnetworking site no doublt the relationships are build up for furtherin business interests yet it requires great trust to go along with it for business purpos

Yes! I will also agree with that, we all should not hide our profile info from others. It will help us to know better before consider a contact.

I agree with you and I also decline all requests with a hidden profile. This is a business site-there is no reason to hide a business profile. I think the whole point on a network like APSense is to build relationships to build your business. If you are hiding that is not happening. Serious business people-those that treat their businesses like businesses don't have time for connecting with players (Those who don't treat their business like a business)
