Cheap Flights using a VPN
Get cheaper flights around the world by booking using a VPN!?
Recently we caught wind of an article on gizmodo about a guy getting great discounts on flights by using a VPN and while these examples took place in domestic America we wondered how and if it would be show anything with international travel So, we put the theory to the test.
Sydney to LA Return
Using the example booking return flights from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport to Los Angeles LAX
We chose the random dates of departure that turned out to be 4/6/2015 and to return on 29/6/2015 1 adult was selected.
Once we established that we hooked up the VPN provided by IPVanish
and connected to some servers in Canada, France/Italy the United States
and England to get pricing and the results are interesting to say the
least.
Our baseline flight price without using a vpn using the Australian Kayak website showed the return fare at $1088.

GBP – £568 Current Exchange rate in AUD – $1110 AUD

If you book your flight with a VPN based out of Canada or the United States and pay with the local currency of the website– there are savings to be had.

London to Dubai
We decided to try a different route to see what results that may
yield and we decided upon Londons Heathrow Airport return to Dubai. The
random dates we selected were to depart on the 4th of August and return
on 26th of August again, it was for a lone passenger.
The base line AUD Price was $848

Cheapest – Book the flight using a VPN in Britain or Europe will save
you. In fact close to $100 if you’re in in Canada. This result made
sense, at least in the way that the country of origin is cheapest to
book out of.
Even still if you’re in the United States or Canada- you’ll save by
using a VPN in Europe and paying with Euros or British Pounds.
Loser: Heathrow to Dubai in CAD
Winner: Heathrow to Dubai in GBP
Conclusion
The Foreign exchange trading industry is massive and way too
complicated for me to understand but we do find it strange that
depending on what country you’re in can have a fairly significant impact
on the price you’ll pay for the exact same flight.
We wrote an article in April about price differences when shopping
online using a VPN and it seems like the trend continues with flights. I
mean, we all have to take into account the time value we spend when we
go looking for bargains but if we can save $80 per person for an
international flight and you’re taking a family for a holiday. it makes
sense to use a VPN and save.
We’re going to keep looking into this trend and see just how far the rabbit hole goes.
Until then, use a VPN it saves you in more ways than one.
