Are Sikh weddings Similar to Hindu weddings?
In the Hindu religion, marriage has a special place. The main objective of Hindu weddings is obeying of religious duties, son attainment, fulfilment of gender relations, Observance of family duties, Observance of duties towards society.
The Sikh Matrimony is basically called Anand Karaj. The meaning of this word is “happy work". There are a few differences between Hindu Matrimony and Sikh Matrimony Below some differences between both of these weddings are mentioned.
Sikh Marriage:
Sikh weddings are known as Anand Karaj. This Anand Karaj is present in 773 pages of Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is a holy book of Sikhs. This Anand word is formed by the third guru of Sikhs and this originates in “Ramkali Raag". The fourth Guru of Sikhs has made “ 4 Lavas". These 4 lavas are read in the Sikh Matrimonial. Bride and Groom take rounds during the recitation of each Lav and do homage to guru Granth sahib Ji after completion of each Lav.
Hindu Marriage:
Hindu weddings are basically called “Vivah or Shaddi”.This word was given by Sanskrit. The wedding is done by Vedic ritual. The main thing is that the bride and groom take seven rounds around “Agni(called as a fire)”.Every round is a symbol of one promise between both individuals. In Hindu religion pre-wedding consists of engagement. In this tradition, Vagdana and Lagna Patron customs are incorporated. In post-wedding, the groom's family welcomes the new bride to their house. This welcoming tradition is known as “Griha Pravesh”.
In this ceremony of Hindu Matrimony, the newlywed bride drops the pot (filled with rice) with her right foot and enters the groom's house.
Conclusion:
Although the rituals and traditions in both the religions are different but the main objective of wedding in both the religions is same . The main intent of wedding between bride and groom is to give away for promising each other in the presence of God .
