Advantage of Attic Insulation
Spray foam attic
insulation comes in two forms, 1/2 lb open cell and 2 lb closed cell. There
are some additional variations for specialists also.
The main difference as suggested in the closed or open cell
foam is the structure of the cells within the foam.
The open cell foam has a density which is around 70% open
and 30% closed, making it "breathable" and is suited best for timber
structures such as roofing or stud work.
Attic Insulation advantage
If you look into your attic and can see all the timbers,
those timbers that you can see are exposed to the cold and moisture-laden air.
The cold and moisture will cool down the timbers which will cool down the
ceiling in the home. If you have insulation between the timbers that have a low
density it shrinks over time very quickly it also performs poorly as is seen
during our survey with the thermal imaging camera, the cold seems to cool down
insulation with low densities quickly as opposed to insulation with high
densities. When you turn on the heat in the home this cold ceiling will absorb
heat quickly and this heat will move into the timbers and insulation and escape
into the attic and cool down the home quickly.
