9 Useful Tips for Moving with Children
Okay! So finally, the decision has been made and the time has come for relocation to your new home.
But, have you told your kids about the move?
Are you afraid how they will react and adjust in the new place?
Are you worried what will happen to their daily routines?
Uff! So many challenges come along with the relocation.
It is no doubt very difficult for a child to cope with new places as there are many things that they have to deal with like making new friends, adjusting in new school, separating from old friends, etc.
In this article, I am going to tell you some tips which you can try to make your move as stress-free as possible for your kids:
1. Organize a surprise party for you kids
If in case, you got a promotion and that’s why you are relocating, then you can organize a surprise party, spend time with your kids, have lots of fun and at last tell them about relocating to the new place.
2. Have a calm discussion with your kids
It might be hard to discuss with you kids in the way that you would like if you are already dealing with your own stress regarding the move.
You can try to make them understand the reason for relocation and it’s necessity and also try to listen to their problems, if any.
If they have any problems or questions then try to overcome their issues very precisely.
3. Explore your new community with your kids
Try to research the new place as much as possible with you kids. Also, make them research on their own.
They can go online with your support and look up neighborhoods and schools.
Copies of several local magazines and a weekend version of the local paper could also be found.
4. Have a visit to your new home one day prior to moving day
a) If you are moving within the town then you can plan on spending the day walking around the house and visiting the new neighborhood.
You can also try to visit the public library and if you have many kids then you can have a walk-through to each kid’s school.
b) If you are moving outside the town then also you can do the above task.
What you have to do is catch the moving van by a few days and live in a nearby hotel.
5. Get them involved in the moving process
Listen to their decisions that they have made for themselves for their stuff and the way they want to relocate.
You don’t need to throw away their old belongings, rather you should allow them to decide what they want to do with their stuff.
This way, you will be able to reduce their anxiety occurring during the move.
6. Make the route creative
You can try to make your way adventurous and tell your kids that you are travelling them to a magical kingdom, an awesome place and make them wear good clothes.
7. Make the things same upon arrival as were in the old house
When you reach your new home, try to arrange the things the same way as they were there in the old house like setting up the bedroom furniture, their daily routines, etc.
This way you will be able to make the new place familiar to the kids.
8. Spend time in initial days
Last but not the least, the most important part of parents’ life is to spend time with their children.
Try to spend more time with your kids when you arrive at your new place.
You can have brunch at a restaurant, take them for movies, spend some time in a fantasy park, etc.
9. Hire a kid-friendly moving company
If you still have some problem or don’t have time to follow these tips then at the last resort, you can hire a professional moving company to take care of the entire move.
