Online and Distance LLM valid in India

Nowadays, people are looking to complete their degrees online. Thus, many universities are offering various programs in online and distance learning. One such program is LLM, some universities are offering LLM in a hybrid or blended learning mode. However, the Bar Council of India (BCI), the regulatory body of Indian lawyers, hasn’t yet approved to offer of an LLM program completely online and in distance modes. Thus, it can be said that a student or any law professional who has completed his/her LLM degree online or in distance mode does not have the authority to practice in the Indian Court of Law. instead of pursuing an online and distance LLM, you can think of other alternate options. Pursuing a degree that does not allow you to practice and has no value in the courts of law, then why waste your time and other resources? Find something valuable and something that gives you a reason to live your dream. Although there are universities offering online and distance LLM, if you still wish to pursue it, then it's completely your choice.

What are the advantages of pursuing an LLM program with alternate options?

As you now know online and distance LLM are not valid in India, more options in the education system are there that will help your learning spirit take a deep breath. These alternate options may include LLM part-time and LLM for working professionals. The duration for both LLM part-time and LLM for working professionals varies from one to two years for different universities. LLM offered to working professionals is an advantage to those students who don’t wish to leave their jobs and focus on their studies only. Most of the universities provide the books and the study material to the students’ address or students may get the online lectures through online mode of education. In the LLM program for working professionals, they need not visit the university campus to pay the fees, instead, the applicant can easily pay the fees through online modes of payment like UPI, net banking, or money transfer. Many universities like Symbiosis Law School (Nagpur), Jindal Global Law School, Symbiosis Law School (Pune), and UPES are offering LLM part-time program and many universities like Kurukshetra Univerity, Jamia Millia Islamia, KUVEMPU University, Jindal Global Law School, Karnataka State Open University, and Banaras Hindu University are offering LLM for working professionals.

The eligibility criteria for both these LLM programs require that students must have completed LLB with a minimum of 50% marks from any recognized university, however, some universities have different minimum percentage criteria. Additionally, students must have qualified marks in the entrance examination conducted by the university itself or by the government of India.
