How Common Is Prostate Cancer In Canada?
The Canadian Cancer Society estimates that nearly 28,000 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, accounting for 22% of all new cancer cases in men. Modern treatments have resulted in 5-year survival rates of 90% or more, and 10-year survival rates of 80% or more, but a diagnosis can still be a very stressful experience.
All Your Questions Answered
Prostaid Calgary explains that sexual health is one of the topics that many men are concerned about, and this is explored in the new video from the August meeting. During the discussion, oncology and palliative care nurse practitioner Reanne Booker covered the changes in sexual health that could occur, and therapeutic options that are now available.
From the October event, Sean Secord of Nanostics Inc. explained some of the groundbreaking advances that are occurring in PSA and MRI testing. Prostaid Calgary points out that early diagnosis makes a significant difference in prostate cancer survival rates.
“Our monthly meetings feature prominent health specialists and include an opportunity to catch up with old friends or make new friends,” a representative explained. “We post regular updates about upcoming speakers on our website, and our monthly journal, The Digital Examiner, offers the latest developments and information.”
Specialist Support Meetings
In addition to men who are living with prostate cancer, Prostaid Calgary offers several specialist meetings for wives, caregivers, and ‘Warriors’: those who have an interest in managing advanced prostate cancer. First formed in 1993, the organization relies solely on private contributions to provide its support service.
“Our objective is to assist and support patients, families and friends by informing, empathizing and reassuring men on their journey with prostate cancer,” the company continued. “By sharing our experiences with our own cancer we lift our spirits and strengthen our resolve to fight for quality of life and a cure.”
