How MOT Is changing the future safety of people
The MOT is the acronym for Ministry of Transport and is an annual
test conducted on the majority of the automobiles that are more than three
years old in terms of their use. In many countries, you can only travel on the
roads legally if your car has passed the relevant test, known as the MOT test,
or we can say MOT test reading.
What is checked during an MOT?
During an MOT several parts of the vehicle are checked and tested,
including:
- Brakes: The brake pads, discs, drums, and other parts are checked to ensure they are not worn out and functioning properly. A brake test is done with the purpose of determining the braking distance and efficiency of a car.
- Lights – Every car has exterior lights, including headlights, brake lights, turn indicator lights, and hazard lights are tested to ensure they are in good working condition and rightly positioned.
- Steering and Suspension – This is the physical examination of the vehicle’s steering and suspension system including shock absorber, strut, wheel bearings, tie rod ends and ball joint and bushings. The car is raised on a jack and it’s under part examined.
- Structure and Bodywork- these are the physical framework and structure of the vehicle and its body with special attention being paid to rusty areas in older cars. Doors and seats are open and closed to ensure that they are in good condition and cannot be opened by intruders.
- Wheels and Tyres – wheels are examined to ensure they are properly attached; tires checked for tread depth, for damages or cracks. Wheel is inspected for possible damages or if it is still attached properly. Tyre pressure is checked.
- Exhaust System – A visible check is run on the exhaust system and the catalytic converter for any signs of leakage, physical damage, security and emission. The color and intensity of the smoked emitted by the engine exhaust is evaluated.
- Other - Many other aspects such as wiper blade, horn, mirror, seatbelt, and emissions control are tested to confirm they are standard. Minor and main Operations like refilling in washer fluid are done if necessary.
Taking Care of Your Car
It pledges to help reduce number of dangerous and unroadworthy vehicles on the road through a MOT test. Nothing is as discouraging as having your car fail at the middle of the road due to lack of proper maintenance and check between MOTs. Alleviation of these problems when still young helps retain the value of your investment in the car as costs of future repair will be high. It also has the effect of decreasing a risk of an accident due to the mechanical failure. The MOT test ensures that the vehicle is safely fit to be on the road and conforms to environmental standards.
Reasons why car servicing is important
It is very essential to service a car so that it can be in good
shape to serve you better throughout. Taking your car for servicing or for car servicing reading as recommended from the manufacturer’s manual prevents you
from paying for expensive repair bills later. Here are some of the advantages
of carrying out car servicing:
- Extend Your Car's Lifespan
Like oil change, fluid check, and belt change, among others, an
individual can be able to extend the life span of the car. It maintains that all
parts are in good condition and that they are not prone to wear out quickly. It
becomes easier to deal with minor problems lest they turn into tenure repair
issues. This means that merely making periodic servicer investments can once
again assist with getting your car to last more than 200,000 miles.
- Improved Fuel Efficiency
Getting tune-ups, oil change, air filter replacements periodically
brings the best out of your car and increases the gas mileage.
Well-maintenanced parts such as the oxygen sensors, spark plugs, and air
filters enable the engine to combust fuel correctly. Economy means that you
will be spending less money on fuel, even though you might occasionally have to
fill your tank up.
- Enhanced Safety
Lights, batteries, and the starter motor have an effect on your
ability to control the vehicle and the capacity to start the vehicle on a given
instance. Servicing technicians are keen in examining these parts so that they
can identify any problems that may occur in future. Worn brake replacement, new
tire balancing, and worn shocks/struts change means your car will not skid or
swerve and this reduces the rate of accidents.
- Higher Resale Value
A vehicle with documents of its service history gives buyers confidence
in the car. This way you get a better price when you decide to trade in your
well maintained used car in the future. Scheduling servicing to your vehicle
preserves the value of the car you have invested on.
Clues Your Car Needs tune up
Besides, it will be advisable not to wait until the next time of
maintenance is due because there may be warning signs that your car requires
servicing at random times. Other signs include a check engine light, abnormal
sounds from the engine/brakes, oily or fluid stains underneath the car, a
change of exhaust sound, and misfires that require the help of a mechanic to
diagnose. Getting these fixed as soon as possible helps to prevent getting
larger repairs done in the future.
