The Japanese automotive Honda manufactures the Fit. In order to compete in the subcompact car market, Honda launched the Fit, also known as the Honda Jazz in certain areas, as a five-door, five-seat hatchback in 2001. However, the Fit was not sold in the US until 2006. Since its launch, the Fit has only had one engine option on its older models and has been offered in two trim levels: Sport and Base. There were choices available for the powertrain of later variants. The Honda Fit was introduced in Japan in 2001, Europe in 2002, and the USA and Canada in 2006.

First-Generation Honda Fit (2001 – 2008)

The Honda Fit is renowned for how well it uses the available interior space, whether it is for cargo or general use. Honda markets the Ultra seat, also known as the magic seat, with four or five seating modes, which is made possible by the gasoline tank under the front seat. The HDD navigation system called Internavi, which features a 6.5-inch colored screen and integrated TV and FM radio services, is standard on Honda Fit models.

The Honda Fit's first generation engine featured an eight-valve, i-DSI technology, with four inline-4 1.2-liter (L12A), 1.3-liter (L13A), 1.5-liter (L15A), and VTEC (L15A) models, each producing 80-100 KW at 5700 rpm. The Honda Fit engines offer excellent fuel economy with two spark plugs per cylinder, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Available with 5-speed manual, 5-speed automatic, or CVT transmissions.

Second-Generation Honda Fit (2009 – 2013)

For the 2009 model year, the Honda Fit had a comprehensive redesign that included increased interior volume and new standard features like a driver's footrest, dual vanity mirrors, active head restraints, and a telescoping steering column. The Honda Fit comes equipped with electronic braking force distribution, four-wheel ABS, side-curtain airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags as standard features. The second generation Honda Fit builds on the first, featuring an extended wheelbase, improved width, and overall length. Honda's cabin height increase reduces boot volume from 603 liters to 583 liters, while inside volume increases. Magic seat arrangement modified for easier folding.

Two engine options were available for this version of Honda Fit. two different i-VTEC engines: a 1.5-liter (L15A) that generates 88 KW (118 HP) at 6600 rpm and a four-cylinder, 1.3-liter (L13A) that produces 73 KW (98 HP) at 6000 rpm. A CVT, a 5-speed automatic, and a 5-speed manual were available for these engines. The structural stiffness of the 2009 Honda Fit chassis was about 200% more than that of its predecessor, indicating that it was also redesigned for strength.

Third-Generation Honda Fit (2014 – Present)

The 2014 Honda Fit model, featuring a centrally located fuel tank and ultra-high-strength steel bodywork, builds on the previous model's design concepts. In comparison to its predecessor, Honda has shortened the Fit's overall length by 1.6 inches, lengthened its wheelbase by 1.2 inches, added 139 liters of passenger volume, and increased the amount of back legroom by 4.8 inches.

Honda introduced the Honda Fit Hybrid, featuring a high-output motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine, and a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. Honda introduced non-hybrid models with 1.3-liter Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC engine and 1.5-liter direct-injection DOHC i-VTEC engine, with CVT transmission and sportier looks. Some markets continued to use 1.2, 1.3, and 1.5 L-series engines with various transmission options, including manual, 7-speed DCT, CVT, and automatic. In 2017, the Honda Fit was redesigned with new bumpers, LED headlights, and daytime running lights.
