What is GFC Hair Treatment?

Growth Factor Concentrate procedure is a new and highly effective non-surgical procedure in which the concentrated growth factors from our blood platelets are used as these have the maximum hair regenerative properties and help tissue repair. There are lots of growth factors in the blood, each of which has a different property. Let’s have a look at the four types of growth factors.

• Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF):

VEGF helps in the growth of new blood vessels during embryonic development and even after injury.

• Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF):

This has the potential to stimulate hair growth. It forms new blood vessels, hence strengthens weak hair.

• Platelet-derived Growth Factor (PDGF):

PDGF also boosts hair growth and promotes the formation of blood vessels. It helps in the multiplication of endothelial cells and provokes the movement of fibroblasts.

• Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1):

IGF-1 stimulates angiogenesis that not only deals with hair loss but also develops hair follicles and promotes hair growth.

How Does GFC Hair Treatment Work?

The GFC hair treatment depends entirely on our body’s healing power which leads to nourishment and rejuvenation of hair follicles. This further leads to hair follicle revival, hair fall reduction and thicker hair. It’s a non-surgical procedure which involves extraction of blood, processing it through the centrifuge process and reinjecting it into the scalp.

The GFC procedure is pretty simple. Blood is taken out of the patient’s body, put in the GFC tubes and kept still for half an hour. This is done to enable the platelets to release the growth factors like platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). After centrifuging the blood for 15 minutes or so, the Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC) is collected and injected into the requisite area.

Since this treatment follows the same technology as used by PRP but works more effectively, this is also known as ‘advanced PRP’. Blood containing only the growth factors is injected into the scalp, this ensures that the quality substance is given in the body for best results and the patient gets fuller hair.

Some people may start noticing the results immediately after the first session whereas others may need a certain number of sessions to gain the required results. It depends on a number of factors which are discussed later. The lasting of results also varies from person to person, somewhere ranging from 6 months to 1 year. If proper care is taken, then results may last for even longer.
