A frequently heard argument about train travel is that it is expensive. We are also sometimes shocked by the prices of a train ticket. With the plane you are sometimes much cheaper. This is immediately the biggest reason for many people not to travel by train. Yet train travel can also be cheap! Taking the train is not only better for the environment, but if you follow these 8 tips it is even better for your wallet!

1) Buy your tickets well in time

This is a mistake that we ourselves sometimes make. We search for a train ticket on the internet and find a cheap trip. Then we close the internet to book the ticket later. Day cheap ticket! Hello too expensive train trip. It is best to book a train ticket well in advance. Once you know when and where you want to go, book your ticket immediately! Especially trains in Germany are all the more expensive the longer you wait.

2) Book your ticket directly at the train company itself

Sorry NS International, but you are not cheap. The website of the NS is clear and clear, but often you find a cheaper price when you look directly at the website of the www.trainman.in. We often use to know about train enquiry on IRCTC as a guide, but then book our ticket with the train company itself.

3) Avoid traveling during peak hours

In many countries the price of a ticket is much more expensive during peak hours. It is of course ideal to leave around 8 o'clock in the morning, but if you take the train an hour later, in many cases you will be cheaper.

4) Buy an Interrail ticket

If you are planning to take the train often or to take a train tour in Europe, an Interrail  Pass is often cheaper. There are two different Interrail passes. The One Country Pass is valid for 1 country and often the cheapest option when you travel through only one country. The Global Pass is valid throughout Europe. The nice thing about an Interrail Pass is that it is quite relaxed to travel. You do not have to worry about buying different tickets for different trains or paying attention to whether you are traveling in rush hour or not.

5) Take a longer route

Websites always show the fastest route when booking, but sometimes it is cheaper to take a longer route. Book the tickets and avoid high-speed lines. It takes a bit longer, but you see a lot more of the country and you are cheaper. For example, if Nick and I travel to Belgium, we always take the train trains instead of the Thalys. You take a little longer, but hey, it is a lot more adventurous.

6) Take the night train

Night trains are becoming increasingly rare in Europe, but where it is possible: take the night train when you have to cross several countries. Taking a night train is often cheaper than catching a lot of different trains. You can of course make it as luxurious and expensive as you want, but a seat can already be booked from € 20, -. You also save money on a hotel, because you do not need that for that night!

7) Buy 2 separate tickets instead of a return

Buying a return ticket is often more expensive than two separate tickets. If a country has different train companies, compare the prices. Sometimes a ticket to society A and a ticket back to society B is a lot cheaper than a return ticket to one and the same company.

8) Travel with a group

You often get a discount when you travel with a group. Find a few people via social media or forums that also have to go the same way and buy your ticket with a big discount. For travel in the India we already have a fantastic  blogs for more details Click Here
