Just like every other type of house cleaning, when it comes to an accidental stain on the carpet, the first thought in every housewife's head is "Let's get the toxic detergent".

There is this myth, the most expensive product is also the most efficient. While there is a generous amount of truth in this, sometimes efficiency is not the case. When cleaning, people tend to forget other factors, which are just as important as a sparkling clean floor cover. One of these factors is your health.

Highly toxic ingredients, even though approved by the local departments of health and welfare, must be used with extreme caution. Most of them will definitely cause a lung problem if their fumes are inhaled in. It's not bad to go out of your way and use latex gloves and a mask, while applying them.

Despite the synthetic contents of these highly efficient products, a lot of people don't know that inside the detergent bottles are also ingredients you can find in your own kitchen or pantry. This only tells us that Mother Nature has given us enough natural solutions, so it's pointless to run towards the most expensive man-made products.

For example, to clean a stain from your carpet, you can do it in six simple steps:

Step 1 – Vacuum around the stain. This is something the carpet cleaning Mortlake companies do prior to the actual stain removal. It's very important.

Step 2 – Prepare your own cleaning solution – just mix equal parts of water and vinegar. Mix them in a spray bottle and shake well. Now you have the detergent you need. No chemicals and no need for using protective gear.

Step 3 – Spray enough of your solution on the stain and use a sponge to rub it in circular motions. This is the reason why we had to vacuum in step, since if we had dust and other debris around the stain, we will only rub them on the carpet and the result wouldn't be as satisfying.

Step 4 – Rinse the spot with warm water.

Step 5 – It's not advisable to leave the carpet moist; since it's made from plant fibre, it's most probably prone to grow mildew. You shouldn't let it dry in the sun, because it's very possible the colours to lighten on the wet spot only and this is never a desired result. The best method for drying is to use a towel at first and later – a blow dryer, or a fan.

Step 6 – Make another concoction of water and baking soda in a sprinkle bottle. Since we all know vinegar doesn't have the best aroma, we can use this simple solution to get rid of the unwanted odour. Baking soda is the main ingredient in the carpet odour removing products.

In the end, you've had your professional products in your house all along and if you need something you can always purchase them online which is something very simple and easy these days.
