5 Factors That Affect The Longevity of Brother Inkjet Cartridges
Every inkjet cartridges have a certain lifespan and if that goes bad after the expiry date, it is understandable but what if you see that the cartridges are drying up just in few weeks? Definitely after finishing the life span, they will not perform their role as we all are aware that like everything else a cartridge has a limited shelf life too.
There are number of factors that affect the longevity of Brother inkjet cartridges and because of these factors the life of a cartridge varies from a few months to a couple of years:
Cartridge Kept Open: The cartridge kept in company packing stays intact in good condition even for a year or more, however, if the cartridge is opened, it may dry up if sufficient care is not taken. In any case, any of the printing product with or without usage over a year is already have the risk of being dried up. The life span of a cartridge can be significantly increased by recycling it or refurbishing it and a cartridge can be refilled 3 to 6 times, if the cartridge holds out.
Remanufactured Printer Cartridge Life: Due to price effectiveness a number of people prefer remanufactured cartridges. These days, remanufactured cartridges are usually of the same quality as the original OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges. If taken care of properly, they can last pretty long. You need to check if any seal is broken, in case any leakage happen, the ink might dry out.
These are rough figures and the actual printer cartridge shelf life would depend to a certain extent on the manufacturing process and model, and also on storage conditions. Quite often, cartridges have been known to last longer than 12 months.
Storage: Cartridges must be stored at a cool place or either it might lose out before expiry. It must be stored with a lot of attention by making sure that the cartridges are sufficiently protected as even a small pin prick in the packaging will break the seal and the ink will begin to dry out. In fact, cartridges can even last a couple of years in a sealed condition.
Testing Print Longevity: Print longevity depends on several variables like fade resistance to light and pollutant gases in indoor air, resistance to dye smear from high humidity. The resistance to fade or yellowing occurs when stored in a dark photo album or a box. Ambient temperature influences print life especially heat as based only on one or two environmental factors, usually light resistance or ambient storage temperature.
Some people buy cartridges in bulk and finding them in perfect condition even 3 to 5 years later. It is only because the manufacturer’s given expiry date, is usually of 20 to 24 months but they take better care and maintain their Brother inkjet cartridges.
