The Third Wave
In our November 16 show, we talked about the victories of the first and second waves of Feminism in the US. The first wave being mainly about winning some basic human rights including the right to vote, the second wave moving into cultivating economic independence and reproductive rights.
We acknowledged these wins for women, and at the same time admitted there is still a conversation going on in the background of our so-called equality. Underneath our talk about equality in the workplace, women are still subject to a social expectation that on the field of life, women are not as capable players as men.
I asked Coach Steve, if I say to you, “You play like a girl.†What is your immediate response?“I’m weak.†He replied.
My co-host Venerina said her response was, “Yes, thank you and I’m proud of it.â€
We distinguished that it is the listening that an individual has for what “You play like a girl†means that reflects one’s experience of the feminine. We acknowledged that rather than having an automatic, preconditioned response, we each have the capability to pay attention to our own listening and choose; how do we hear the words “play like a girl,†“cry like a woman,†“take it like a man
In my view, the Third Wave of Feminism is achieved when the listening in our culture has moved so that the idea of womanly elicits an experience of the feminine in all its radiance and glory.
Beyond the Third Wave, we have the opportunity to disappear the whole conversation of Feminism and stand together in humanism. Masculine and Feminine standing together surrendering open to Oneness with the Divine.
Join us this Friday when we talk about Gender Roles. Playing out Gender Roles has us acting out pre-written scripts for our behavior and our relationships. Gender Roles are mainly based upon cartoonish stereotypes for human beings that unconsciously limit our experience of each other. Gender Roles are generally based on the lower energy expressions of the masculine and feminine.
Come and play with us as we explore the idea of transcending these scripts this Friday at 10 AM, MST on Real Coaching Radio Network.
