Heroin is one of the most addictive drugs on the market and I often wonder why 93@% of it comes from Afghanistan where the poppy flower is grown in abundance. In a country where the CIA World Fact Book estimates an average income per capita (that means the average income per person) to be about $1,100 per annum, it is almost understandable that a crop of poppies that generate about $4 billion could mean there is little to no regard for what this produce is doing to people. On a worldwide basis, estimates are 13.5 million people are addicted to heroin, some starting to inject themselves within a week from snorting it and an almost unstoppable downward spiral into an addiction that is almost incurable.

Deaths from heroin rank very high, with the European Monitoring Centre on Drugs and Drug Addiction reporting in 2008 that 4 out of 5 drug related deaths to be due to heroin. I have no idea why these ‘latest’ statistics are 5 years old, but there’s probably not much hope that it would’ve improved, rather worsen. Lots of addicts report the reason for getting involved being the fact that they are unemployed and getting trapped by having time on their hands and drug dealers will pounce on anyone.

Unemployment is a problem in every single country in the world. I believe the heart of the education system is at fault. Children are taught (and become brainwashed) that their education will enable them to become employees. Becoming an entrepreneur, who is someone that can think creatively, find ways to become and stay motivated, able to negotiate, hussle and trade are NOT taught. Children grow up believing they will only ever be good enough to work for someone with these qualities. An entrepreneur however, will usually only pay an employee enough for you to feel it’s enough to warrant the trip into work and slaving away for 8 – 9 hours a day, after all, when you’re in business, you extract maximum profit by cutting expenses, one of which is salaries.

The internet offers a way out and we need to teach children from as young as possible that they could have a better life, make more money and avoid the addiction of harmful narcotics by having a dream, to set goals and to live a life of expecting to do better than what employment can ever offer.
