When it comes to the most important home appliances, washing machine stands tall along with refrigerator, heater and air conditioner. Whenever any of these appliances go wrong, problems arise in the household. Clean clothes and sheets are a necessity of daily life and most of us cannot do without a regular laundry. That is why when the washing machine stops working, feeling alarmed is only natural. However, the good news is that when there is a minor problem with your washing machine, you can fix it yourself. You do not have to be a repairman or a professional to fix these problems. However, you would need to understand what caused the problem and what would be the best way of fixing it. Here are some of the common problems that you may face with your washer.

Leaking:
Leaking is one of the most common problems that washing machine users face from time to time. Though common, this could turn out to be a huge problem. Your washing machine may leak both before and after it has been filled. If you notice leaking after filling the machine with water, chances are good that the connection is loose or there is a problem with the pump hose. If the machine leaks when filling water, know that there may be a crack in the inlet hose.

In order to solve this problem, you would first need to find out the exact spot where the machine is leaking from. Fixing the problem won’t be possible for you unless you determine the cause of leaking. A washing machine can leak from several places, which is why finding the leakage may take some time. Make sure you check all the hoses and search for cracks in the unit. Sometimes the solution may be as simple as tightening a loose screw or nut.

Excessive vibration:
Most of the washing machines vibrate to a certain degree. However, when your washer starts to vibrate excessively, know that the legs of the washing machine are out of balance. When a washing machine starts to make a lot of noise due to excessive vibration, it may seem like there is a serious problem with the machine. However, the problem could be solved just by leveling the legs.

Broken drive belt:
When the agitator of a washing machine spins too slowly or too roughly, it is generally caused by a broken drive belt. It may even be caused by a drive belt that has come loose. If you face the same problem, check whether the agitator is broken or has come loose. Fixing the problem soon enough is crucial if you want your washer to perform at its best. A broken drive belt needs to be replaced and tightening a loose drive belt would be enough.

If you are facing more serious problems with your washing machine, it would be best to contact a mechanic. You may have to buy appliance repair parts for fixing the problem. The professional would be able to advise you on that.
