A surveying equipment, Total Station is integrated with EDMI (Electromagnetic Distance Measuring Instrument) and electronic theodolite. It is basically used to determine horizontal and vertical angles as well as sloping distance of object to the instrument. Armed with microprocessor that processes the collected data which can be downloaded to computers for further processing. Built-in storage system gives enough space to store the processed information.

One can easily download daily survey information into CAD (Computer-Aided Design) to perform data manipulation in a much faster and an accurate way. Doing so can provide better clarity and understanding towards project coordinates, rather than by using conventional surveying techniques.

Major capabilities of a Total Station survey equipment:

  1. ·         Data collection and processing
  2. ·         Measurement of multiple angles.
  3. ·         Calculation of multiple distances.
  4. ·         Determining horizontal distances.
  5. ·         Finding distance between any two points.
  6. ·    Measuring elevation of objects and all coordinates of the observed points.

Applications:

This compact surveying instrument can be easily carried to the field and used in modern surveying and construction projects. It uses electronic transit theodolite in combination with EDM (Electronic Distance Meter). Such total station are mainly used by land surveyors and civil engineers, either to record features as in topographic surveying or to layout of construction sites such as roads, houses or boundaries. These are also widely used by archaeologists to record excavations and by police, crime scene investigators, and insurance companies to take measurements at sight.

Categories of Total Station surveying:

  • ·         Slope Staking
  • ·         Topographic surveys
  • ·         Traverse surveys and adjustments
  • ·         Construction project layout
  • ·         Leveling
  • ·         Building Face Surveys
  • ·         Resections, Areas and Intersections
  • ·         Point Projections
  • ·         Taping from Baseline
  • ·         Road (Highway) Surveys
