Before anything else, let’s specify to all the confusions. An original cartridge is the one which is manufactured by the same brand that made your printer. For instance, HP cartridge is manufactured by HP. While on the other hand, third party or remanufactured inkjet cartridges are manufactured by a different company for your printer. For instance, cartridge for a HP printer but not manufactured by HP. This is as simple as that.
 
Re-manufactured inks are just as reliable and genuine cartridges as long as you shop from a reputable supplier. The good thing about re-manufactured inks are that it can save you a lot of money without impacting print quality or the performance of your machine. Consumers who use compatible inks typically can’t tell the difference between genuine and compatible cartridge performance.

Difference Between OEM & Re-Manufactured Cartridges:

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)

  • An original cartridge is a brand new cartridge manufactured by the same brand that made your printer.
  • So an original cartridge for a HP printer is manufactured by HP.

Remanufactured

  • These are original cartridges which have been used once and returned.
  • It has been cleaned all working parts replaced and then refilled.
  • These are typically toner cartridges with the parts of toner that experiences wear during the printer process being replaced.

Also you can find compatible inks which are brand new cartridge made by a third-party manufacturer. They have no affiliation with the original manufacturers of the printer and the cartridges have not been used before.

Why The Price Difference?

OEM is manufactured after lot of research and development, which costs the manufacturers and they have to make their money back. This leads to the price hike, leading to high consumable prices once a customer has committed to a printer.
 
One the other hand, re-manufactured inkjet cartridges have no such overheads, therefore, it can charge much lower prices when producing cartridges in a mass process. Be careful though, it’s not difficult to find sub-standard compatibles at ridiculously low prices. Thus, make sure to only ever buy from reputable websites with returns policies and guarantees.

Will Re-Manufactured Inks Affect Your Printer Warranty?

There has been only few encounters where the cartridge damaged a printer and legitimate suppliers guarantee that the performance of your machine for cartridge failure. Though, some of the stages are there which can damage your printer using the re-manufactured inks, maybe once in year for fewer people and extremely rare for a cartridge. With the ink formulation incredibly close to the genuine cartridge, you’ll often see just as good colour reproduction, accuracy of print and ease of use with the re-manufactured ink cartridges.
