Blog Silo Development Tutorial
I was first introduced to website silo in 2013 after reading the ground breaking article written by Bruce Clay, innovator of the concept. I subsequently implemented the silo to some degree on a site I developed for my brother's music band (check them out here).
I did so by tweaking the categories, pages and menu after I read this article by Stephen Cronin. Stephen Cronin is NOT for beginners, mind you. I did pretty well on naming the Pages and Categories alike, but got stuck because the category pages kept going back to blank pages. I know today that these pages must contain the contents of the category, thanks to a recent video by Brendan Mace.

The silo has the advantage of:
- connecting pages to posts
- bringing up content unique to the category when a keyword is searched
- increasing value of the search
- logically structuring the site
- improving the ease of the search
- tightly themeing the site
