Bartending is a Skill

Bartending and making good quality drinks is not an easy feat for any individual. There are novices and so-called “professionals” alike who do not know the difference between a shot recipe and a cocktail recipe. Therefore, it could not hurt to learn a few bartending tips from the experts who know what they are doing. Maybe someone wants to become the next great mixologist or perhaps an individual desires to merely impress friends and family at the next fun get together. Either way, obtaining some bartending tips from people who know what they are doing could make a person the life of the party or gain a person the opportunity at a big bartending gig. Overall, the worst action a person can commit is not asking questions and making assumptions about an industry.

Regrettably, some people think that just knowing the adage of “shaken not stirred” by the famous James Bond is decent enough to get by as a bartender. This could not be further from the truth because there are an abundant amount of potential customers willing to pay top dollar to someone who can satisfy their finer tastes. It stands to reason that any good approach for people wanting to enter the bartending field is to, at minimum, gain some good bartending tips to improve their skills.

However, what people may not know is that making drinks for money is a science, an art, and it does necessitate some business skills as well. Lets face it, anyone can open a book up and claim to be a drink expert, but the proof is the results from a person’s palate and ultimate satisfaction.

Learning to bartend involves a multidimensional approach. The first part of this process requires an individual to learn bartending terminology, which is knowing the various types of drink mixes and glassware. There are many different types of mixed drinks, and breaking it down to a categorical system will save a prospective bartender a hefty amount of time.

Next thing to know is that any person who wants to take it to the next level, and go beyond the stage of amateur, needs to respect the idea that bartending is a skill. Turning it into an occupation requires a person to learn about and implement the business side of bartending. For example, just because a person picks up a basketball and shoots a few shots does not make that individual a professional NBA super-star. In that same case and point, a person who occasionally makes a mixed drink does not earn the title of bartender. So maybe serious individuals should seek some reliable bartending tips and go practice the craft before claiming the title of bartender.
