What do your Honor Points really mean?
I just opened my first group here at Apsense, which I believe increased my Honor Points to 2. And this got me thinking.
As I go around my social/business networking sites, commenting, requesting friends, etc etc .... I notice my activity points rising. In my head, I hear a little voice go WOOHOO! or Alright! ... proud of myself for seeing those little number increase higher and higher.
They are just numbers though. They truely do not mean anything in the larger scheme of things. You can have someone extremely active at a site, but overall, have little to contribute of value. On the otherhand, you can have someone mildly active, but when they do contribute, they are gold! Which person would you rather associate with? Someone who only cares about having the highest activity rating but have not much to offer ... or someone who doesn't care about labels and has something of value to offer?
I'm definately not saying for sites to do away with such gauges. They are obviously needed. But I have noticed some folks get carried away with these numbers and base their existance in having the highest in all categories.
Basically, I'm not impressed with the large numbers beside your name ... unless you have the content and value to back it up. I hope I don't sound too harsh or uppity with this post. I guess this is something that has been eating at me for awhile now. Not just on networking sites, but game sites, forums (forum post counts), and other sites.
Ok, I'll stop now ... for one, it's almost 4am. Secondly, I can go on and on about this *grins*

HI Barb,
It appears you have been here much longer than I and I apologize for not getting over 'HERE" sooner. First, based on what I have been reading I'm pretty sure you needn't worry about contributing quality content. That was MY fear about joining APSense right from the "get-go". Regarding your subject at hand, I would rather interact with those they have "lower" scores but a wealth of information than those who's scores are higher just because they happen to be popular.

It's been 4 months. I have not been as active here at Apsense as I had hoped I would be due to work and life getting in the way *grins*.
My Honor Points have moved up to 29 ... it went up 4 just this week as I became more active.
I just hope that the content I add is of quality and is helpful to all who read it.

I'm keepin' on!
I know I shouldn't worry too much over the numbers ... I mean, they are only numbers, right? *grins*
It's QUALITY over quantity.
But darn it, those increasing numbers sure do look purty! *wink*
<<-- over-tired at nearly 5 am Sunday morning!
Off to dream-land I go .... dreamin' of sales *grins*

It's a delightful mystery.
if your points go up they may have just updated their data based on posts you did previously... I doubt if honor points are calculated instantaneously? hmmmm... they also reflect the sign ups under you... so i have to admit... I managed to invite a few folks over here and I began to feel like a real online marketer! and I appreciate each and everyone of them!
Every time someone views your profile... views your blog or group that gets you a post as well... so it's

It's the following day since the above post and now my Honor Points is 4. Have no clue how/why it increased. It does look spiffy though, eh? *grins*
Shortly after posting my original post above, I got to thinking about how negative and whinny it does. Was I in a bad mood? I don't recall such. Was I looking at it all wrong? Very possible.
Later in the day, I received a message from another Apsense member here. The only thing in the message was a short story/poem. No explanation for wh
