What's your opinion on building links via "web 2.0"s?

What's your opinion on building links via "web 2.0"s? That term sounds silly to me now but it was common five or so years ago and I haven't paid much attention to this stuff lately. Basically free web sites like weebly, jimdo, wix, etc and article sites like ezinearticles.
