What do you think of the pain vs pleasure concept described by Tony Robbins, in Awaken the Giant Within? That when something is too pleasurable and so is damaging to our life, because of health, relationships, time or money issues, that we should find a way to make the situation painful, in order to stop it?

Great goal. Lets wait and see. The rate at which improvements are taking place technologywise is simply amazing. I would not be surprised if the guys at IBM succeeded in making such a computer - after all, some of the things humans thought to be impossible just a few decades ago are now reality and commonplace. Both you and I are using these seemingly impossible things right now (the ipad, laptop, desktop PC, the internet e.t.c)

I read recently that IBM is working on a new technology that will work like our neural circuits, and they intend to have a computer with 10,000 "neurons" in a few years, or is it decades, not sure

Philippe, interesting that you mention "the neural circuits." They are like - no, not like, but larger and more sophisticated than a 100 Terabyte hard drive that keeps a very accurate record of all of our experiences since we were born. Some refer this "hard drive" as the subconscious mind. This is also where all of our innermost beliefs "reside." beliefs that have a very big influence on our lives.

I read 2 books by an author last name Bonomo a few years ago, she talked about the amygdal ( is it the right word in English ), that part of the brain that triggers an alert when in presence of a person or situation. It's fascinating. What she's saying is that no matter what you do, you can heal partly, but the neural circuits of the experiences of childhood will always be there to be triggered. As in online marketing, the keyword is "effort", in most cases painful effort.

Agreed Philippe. People are different and each of "their brains" will have different ideas/perception about the situation and what to do or what not to do. Being Aware is also not enough and like I said in my earlier comment, appropriate decisive action will be required to remedy the situation. Philippe, you mentioned that there had been a post by someone else. I didn't see it. Maybe the individual deleted it him/herself

I'm saying that the brain has other ideas, that being aware of a pleasure causing problems is not enough. Hey, there had been a post by someone else, it's gone, it was an interesting take.

Philippe, while I've not read the book (Awaken the giant within), I shall attempt to give you my take. This "something" that is so pleasurable and at the same time damaging to your life that can only be stopped by making it painful....Well, for me the most important thing is to be aware of what is happening and why and at this point make a decisive personal decision to change the situation. Personally I do not believe that one has to "make" a "pleasurable but damaging" situation "painful" in or
