Algebra is a major component of Math learning and it helps one in preparation for the challenges of life. Many students avoid Algebra due to lack of basic skills in the subject and try to shun Algebra classes. If a student tries to know the fundamentals of Algebra, his job becomes easier and he is able to ace the subject with ease.

Knowing the basic terms of Algebra helps students have a good start for the subject. Flipping through the dictionary for basic terms like ’variable’ , ’constant ‘ and ‘expressions’ helps one know what they mean and how they are understood in the context of Algebra. ‘Constant’ represents a known number or quantity. ‘Variables’ are unknown numbers and they are symbolized by letters like ”x”, “y” “a” and “b”.

‘Expressions’ are the combinations of variables, constants, real numbers and mathematical operations. ‘Equations’ are the collections of expressions located on either side of an equal sign. Carrying a dictionary to Algebra class helps students reduce half of their burden in understanding basic Algebraic terms.

Same way, learning the axioms of Algebra is equally important for an easy move through the subject. The basic axioms or principles of Algebra are reflexive, transitive, symmetric, additive and multiplicative principles. Reflexive axiom states that a number is equal to itself like 2 equals 2 and “x” equals” x”. Transitive axiom states that if “a” equals “b” and ”b” equals ”c”, then “a” equals “c”. Symmetric axioms state that expressions that are around the equal sign are symmetrical to each other like if “a” equals “b”, then “b” equals “a”.

Additive axiom means if two sets of quantities are equal and are added by equal quantity or number, they will remain equal. Suppose “a” equals “b” and “x” equals “y”, then “a+x” = ”b+y”. Multiplicative axiom is if “a” equals “b’’ and “x” equals “y”, then “ax” equals “by”.

Learning the order of operations is also an important aspect of learning basic Algebra. It is the order based on which mathematical operations should be done first while solving Algebraic problems that involve two or more mathematical operations. The operations within the set of a parenthesis or brackets (grouping symbols) should be done first .Suppose there are grouping symbols within grouping symbols, the innermost group of expression should be done first. Mathematical operations should be done from left to right. Students should follow the rule of multiplication then division followed by addition and subtraction.

It is practice which makes Algebra learning easy. Solving a number of problems with an understanding of the above mentioned algebraic principles and operations will help students ace Algebra without struggle. While solving Algebra or doing homework, it is better to sit in a calm place and refrain from all deviations as the subject needs much concentration and a clear understanding of the problems. It also demands a step by step analysis.

Learning Algebra with seriousness helps students get plenty of career opportunities and it also helps them tackle fundamental life situations with ease. Algebra knowledge is useful in varied walks of life and students gain immense benefit in their career and life if they have a good idea of algebraic concepts. It is also useful for the study of advanced Math courses.
